Daisy is a diesel railcar, who works on the Harwick Branch Line alongside Ryan. Ryan is usually tasked with goods, while Daisy handles the passengers. However, Daisy is a very lazy engine. She only does the jobs she likes, rather than having to pull cars or coaches.
One morning, Sir Topham Hatt had come to Tidmouth Sheds with important news.
"Thomas and Percy, I have a very important job for you two."
The two best friends rolled forward with interest.
"As you all know, Sodor has been getting more visitors each day. However, Thomas, your branch line has especially been getting loads of passengers. This in mind, I am relocating you and Percy to Ffarquhar Sheds. Toby is already there, waiting."
"Not to worry, Sir," beamed Thomas, "We're ready to tackle whatever challenge awaits us!"
Before leaving for Ffarquhar, Thomas collected Annie and Clarabel from Knapford, as he couldn't necessarily travel a long distance to collect them, upon new working grounds.
Upon arrival Toby was pleased to see his friends.
"Hello, you two." greeted the steam tram.
"Hi, Toby!" whistled Percy.
Thomas shunted Annie and Clarabel into a nearby coach shed.
"Hello there." chirped a well-known voice.
Clarabel looked to her right to see Henrietta right beside her.
"Oh, hello, Henrietta." she smiled.
Once Thomas rolled into the middle of the small sheds, right between Percy and Toby, Sir Topham Hatt pulled up in his car.
"It's nice to see that you three are all settled in." he commented, "Now, since all three of you are working on the branch line, Percy, I've got a special surprise for you."
"For me, Sir?!" chirped Percy.
"That's right!" responded Sir Topham Hatt.
Just then, Mavis arrived. She was pulling two red coaches with faces directed in the same ways that Annie and Clarabel would.
"Percy, I'd like you to meet your coaches, Corey and Clancy."
"Hello, Percy!" the two coaches greeted.
Mavis rolled Corey and Clancy onto the turntable, so they could turn around and face the right way.
"They're all yours, Percy." said Mavis.
Percy peeped his whistle and rushed over to the other track. He coupled up to his new coaches and shunted them into the coach shed, next to Annie, Clarabel, and Henrietta.
"Isn't this great?!" beamed Thomas, "We've all got our own coaches!"
"Well, I couldn't just have you and Toby doing all the passenger work." responded Sir Topham Hatt.
"Anyways, you three, have a short rest and then get to work."
"Yes, Sir!" the three engines replied.
~~~Later that day, the three engines went on with their work, collecting passengers and taking them to their destinations. Every now and then, one of the three engines would get too many passengers, so they went on to rendezvous at whatever station closest to, where they sent some extra passengers over to whichever engine didn't have too much to carry.
However, days passed, and more passengers came in. Even to the point that all three engines coaches were filled up. Even so, they persevered to get the job done.
One day, the three engines were exhausted.
"We've been rushed off our wheels!" exclaimed Thomas.
"There's too many passengers for all of us, together." added Percy.
"We need another engine." stated Toby.
So, Thomas's Driver phoned Sir Topham Hatt about the situation.
"I see… I see… Okay, goodbye."
Sir Topham Hatt went to the sheds on the Arlesburgh branch line.
"Daisy, I could use your help."
"Moi, Sir?" beamed Daisy.
"Yes. Unfortunately, Thomas, Percy, and Toby are rushed off their wheels with all the passengers they've been getting. I would greatly appreciate it if you were to compensate for this inconvenience."
"Why, yes, Sir, I'd love to!" Daisy smiled, putting herself in the spotlight.
"And one more thing," glared the top-hat wearing controller, "I expect that you will follow orders this time. Do you understand?"
Daisy bit her lip, thinking back to when she first arrived on Sodor. She looked at Sir Topham Hatt's tense expression and put on a goody-two-shoes look, "Yes, Sir."
"Well, then, it's about time you got to work!"
Daisy tooted her horn and rolled off to Ffarquhar. Upon arriving, she cheerfully tooted at the three engines.
"Bonjour, you three!" she honked, "Sir Topham Hatt has chosen moi, a highly-sprung, up-to-date diesel railcar to lend you a wheel with your passengers."
Thomas, Percy, and Toby glared. Daisy was being her usual self. Knowing her, the trio doubted Daisy could be of much help.
Just then, Sir Topham Hatt arrived.
"Now, you three, I expect that you'll be thankful of Daisy's assistance during these times."
"But, Sir, you know Daisy!" protested Thomas, "She only does the jobs she likes!"
"She gave me her word, Thomas." glared Sir Topham Hatt.
Thomas turned to see Daisy with an innocent expression. Then back at Sir Topham.
"And I expect you to give me yours, to be nice to Daisy."
Thomas sighed, "Yes, Sir."
Sir Topham Hatt drove away. Once gone, the three engines looked back at Daisy.
"You sure you'll do whatever is asked of you?" asked Thomas.
"Why, of course!"
"Even if you have to pull coaches?"
"Oh, I doubt I'd even have to. I'm sure there wouldn't even be that many passengers."
~~~The days went by, and even more passengers showed up. Even as far to the point as Daisy almost being full. Sir Topham Hatt came to her one day.
"Now, Daisy. From what I've seen, your seats have nearly been filled up. Because of this, I have to assign you some coaches to compensate, once again."
Daisy let her ego get the better of herself, "I can't pull! Fitter's orders!"
"I see…" Sir Topham Hatt paused, "Well, why don't I give him a call, then?"
Daisy was shocked. Sir Topham had called her bluff, and he'd know the truth before long.
As he said he would, Sir Topham Hatt called Daisy's fitter, who explained that he never did say anything about pulling being bad for Daisy's swerves.
Sir Topham Hatt angrily spoke to Daisy.
"I thought I could trust you to follow orders, but no, you're lazy as you were when you arrived."
"B-but, Sir…"
"I don't want to hear it! It's your choice… either pull coaches, or sit in the sheds while I find another engine to fill your spot."
Daisy tried to speak, but her face dropped. She knew her fate.
Just as she was told, Daisy was left in the sheds. She was busy contemplating if she'd made the right choice or not.
Just then, it began to rain. Daisy sighed.
"The engines have sanding gear, they'll be fine."
~~~Unfortunately, Thomas was especially packed with passengers. At the current station, a hill stood overhead.
"I can make it," he said to himself.
Tooting his whistle, Thomas pulled forward and began to climb the hill. Even with his sanding gear, he could only make it halfway. He even tried so hard that he burst his steam pipe.
With the heavy coaches behind him, Thomas rolled back down the hill and stopped at the station. He didn't have much steam left, but he used the last of it to whistle as hard as he could.
"HEEELP!"
Back at the sheds, Daisy heard Thomas's whistle.
"It's Thomas! He must be in trouble!"
Daisy sprang into action. She hurried off to find where Thomas's whistle came from, and found him before long.
"Thomas, what happened?!" she asked.
"My sanding gear failed and my steam pipe burst!" the tank engine explained, "Looks like I'm going nowhere fast."
Just then, Daisy had an idea, "I'll take as many passengers as I can, and pull you up the hill."
"But then won't you be full?"
"I'd rather have too many passengers than let my friend sit around with no way of finishing what he started."
Thomas smiled. With that, Daisy stood in front, allowing most of Thomas's passengers to switch over. With that, Daisy coupled up in front of Thomas and began to pull. Her driver readied the sanding gear and Daisy chuffed forward.
The hill alone wouldn't've been too difficult to climb, but with a large load of passengers while pulling an engine and his coaches behind her, Daisy found it tough.
She was nearly at the top, when she suddenly felt her wheels slip. She felt like giving up, but Thomas looked at his friend.
"I believe in you, Daisy, you can do it!"
With that, Daisy used everything she had to pull Thomas, his coaches, and both their passengers up the hill. Before long, they arrived at the top station. The passengers stepped out and cheered for Daisy's excellency. Daisy blushed, looking back at Thomas.
"Now that's why you are-"
"A really useful engine!" beamed a well-known voice.
Daisy looked to see Sir Topham Hatt arrive in Winston.
"I'll set aside the fact that you disobeyed my orders, as you did so for the right reasons. You knew a fellow engine was in trouble, so you did the right thing by taking action and helping him finish the job."
Daisy beamed harder than ever. She'd exceeded everyone's expectations and pushed past her bias towards pulling.
"Sir, if it's not too much, I'd love to stay around for a little longer and help with the extra passengers."
"Of course it's not too much!" exclaimed Sir Topham Hatt, "Ryan's doing just fine on his own."
~~~Ryan wasn't doing fine on his own. He had to handle the goods and passenger work at the same time. He was rushed off his wheels.
