The iconic pink logo of the Squid Sisters materialized against the colorful backdrop, followed by the scene of Callie and Marie in the Inkopolis studio with a massive screen behind the two cousins, a sight that never got old for every Inkling citizen who had been watching every broadcast for years now.

"Hold on to your tentacles!" Callie proclaimed.

"It's Inkopolis News Time!" Marie finished.

The big screen flashed red with the words 'Emergency News Warning', accompanied by the infamous skull and crossbones danger warning and Callie's eyes widened, her hands spread dramatically. "MASSIVE INKOPOLIS NEWS ALERT!" Callie exclaimed, "Our city has been invaded!"

A scene materialized on the big screen with the words 'Danger' written above, showing yellow-colored creatures with massive eyes, running around and causing a ruckus.

"You heard correctly, squids and kids!" Marie declared with a shocked expression on her face, "Overnight, after the release of a new movie known as 'Minions: Rise of Gru', Inkopolis was hit by the biggest of emergencies since the last known theft of the Great Zapfish. Minions have been flooding the streets, terrorizing our fellow Inklings and disturbing the peace of our beloved splatropolis."

"This might be just as bad as when Inklings started being squidnapped to Anime Island a few years back!" Callie wailed, "Whatever shall we do to handle this crisis?"

"But that's not all in regards to this insanity! According to one of our news correspondents abroad, the Minion crisis seems to be affecting the Mushroom Kingdom as well if not just our beloved town of Inkopolis." Marie commented.

The camera footage shifted, showing Minions running amuck in a lush green countryside and causing mayhem with Peach's Castle in the background. It didn't take long for a yellow male Inkling in a black suit to make his appearance on the screen, a grey microphone in hand with a mildly frightened look on his face that showed how unsettled he was by the matter at hand.

"We are looking at quite the pickle..." Inkson Vink said nervously into the camera, "Minions everywhere, they've been vandalizing homes, stealing furniture and scaring the everlasting daylights out of everyone and... Oh dear, I think I see one looking right at me, it's giving me a scary look and..."

"BANANA!" A minion yelled, popping up on the screen next to the started Inkopolis reporter.

"GREAT KRAKEN!" Vink wailed, "It doesn't seem to be safe here anymore, not with these guys starting to come closer. Pack your equipment, Splatine, we're evacuating to a doomsday bunker! Oh no, there's more coming this way! Run, RUN! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

The reporter ran off, the camera dropping to the ground with a thud and several Minions rushed by. In a second, the camera was picked up and it turned around, revealing its new holder to be a Minion.

"Eehehe!" The Minion giggled, "Hi!"

Callie and Marie yelped in alarm, terrified by the sight of the Minion. Then the camera footage shifted away, returning to Inkopolis and showing the unfolding chaos of the Minion situation while more Minions arrived and chased a couple Octolings, sticking their tongues out at them and yelling gibberish.

"Whoever will handle this nightmare?" Callie wailed, "Agent 3? Agent 8? Agent 4? Meggy Spletzer? The Mario Brothers? SOMEONE DO SOMETHING BEFORE IT GETS WORSE!"

"Settle down, Callie." Marie said in an assuring tone, "I'm sure somebody will take care of this as soon as they possibly ca..." Glass shattered before the Inkling could finish her sentence and a Minion burst into the studio with a mad grin, screaming like a lunatic and waving his arms wildly.

"TV BROADCAST!" The Minion yelled.

"Oh carp!" Callie shrieked.

"This is it, folks, that's all for today!" Marie announced in a panic as she raised her voice, "STAY IN YOUR HOMES NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS AND DO NOT GO OUTSIDE! DON'T LET THESE MINION THINGS COME NEAR YOU UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TERRORIZED OR TURNED INTO ONE OF THEM! That's all the news we have, until the next broadcast…"

"STAAAAAAAAAAAAAY SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAFE!" The Squid Sisters screamed.

More Minions appeared and the two Inkling cousins ran for it, leaving the studio as the Minions began knocking stuff over and the broadcast ended. All across Inkopolis, every TV screen and jumbotron showing the news broadcast cut to static with an ominous electronic whine.

In the hours after the crisis had started, after seeing what was happening when she'd woken up that morning, she was on the move and she'd heard the broadcast on the radio while driving. Meggy Spletzer was armed and ready, her Splattershot by the former Inkling's side and her Splat-bombs were safely packed in her weapons inventory with her.

Meggy's feet were hard-pressed on the pedal, her Inkling car racing at high-speed through the minion-infested streets towards the city limits of Inkopolis with the chaos unfolding all around her.

A minion jumped onto the hood of the squid-shaped automobile, making a goofy face at Meggy in a very scary manner. She steered, veering left and right as hard as she could to throw off the strange yellow gremlin-looking creature.

Inklings were running in terror, screaming as Minions harassed them, while others tried to fight. Meggy often drew her Splattershot, firing bursts of ink at the crazy-looking yellow humanoids creatures and taking some of them out. Meggy kept focus on the road after taking out some minions in the passing vicinity; she could not let Inkopolis be torn down by these wacky wide-eyed troublemakers.

'Jeeze, this situation looks like it's already gotten out of hand here.' Meggy thought to herself, 'Let's hope we can still turn this around and get rid of those crazy things.'

She drove through a tunnel, keeping alert to her surroundings as she drove through the darkness and passed by one of the 'Welcome To Inkopolis' signs. However, it had seen better days as a Minion was just spraying 'Minion-land' over 'Inkopolis' with yellow spray paint. The minion laughed with glee, his deranged laugh echoing through the tunnel and giving the ex-Inkling chills.

A determined Meggy continued along, approaching the light at the other end and emerged from the tunnel in the greater district of Inkopolis with colorful buildings, flashing squid jumbotrons and various Splatoon signs. Unfortunately, despite the city's lively and inviting beauty, the beanie-wearing squid-turned human could see complete chaos everywhere.

The air was filled with wailing sirens and screaming citizens as Minions caused trouble everywhere, knocking over signs, setting trees ablaze and attacking Inklings as if they were playing a harmless little game.

Meggy had seen all that she knew of the situation, she slammed on the breaks and leaped out of her car, Splattershot ready. She ran into the chaos, pressing the trigger and firing on the nearest batch of Minions. The orange ink splattered the yellow-colored creatures and knocked them over, catching them by surprise. One minion cried out in shock, having not expected the attack to happen.

"HERE! HAVE AN ORANGE TRIANGLE TO PLAY WITH!" Meggy hollered and threw a Splat-bomb towards a pair of Minions harassing an orange Inkling boy by a bench.

The Minions were making scary faces and scary noises, swarming the young squid like rabid dogs, when Meggy threw the bomb. The pair turned, seeing the Inkling explosive coming their way and the kid they were harassing quickly morphed into Squid form and snuck away to safety.

POW! The Splat-bomb exploded, covering the Minions in orange and sending them flying with a scream. Meggy pumped her fist with a grin and cried out when a Minion grabbed her by the leg.

"GET OFF ME, CREEP!" Meggy aimed her weapon and splatted the Minion, who let go of her and fell over. Meggy kicked the blue-overalls wearing yellow troublemaker and sent him crashing into a tree, knocking the Minion out cold while coconuts fell, bonking him upon the head while he passed out.

BONK! Meggy yelped as something hit her in the head, she thought it was a rock, but then she looked down and saw it was a banana. She turned and saw a pair of Minions holding bananas as if they were weapons. "BANANA!" The Minions cried, then they shouted something in Minion-ese, probably how Meggy was a big bully they needed to take down.

"Guys, I hate to say this, but you're the real troublemakers around here." Meggy told the Minions, "Troublemakers who need to learn their place and not be jerks disrupting the peace."

KA-SPLAT! She blasted the Banana Minions in the face and kicked down one of them, rendering the Minion unconscious. Meggy picked up the banana that one of the Minions had thrown at her, looking at it with some curiosity for a second, then she threw it out in the nearest garbage can.

Meggy heard a scream nearby and ran to the other side of the street to handle the matter, finding a blue-haired Inkling girl in a white T-shirt and goggles being harassed by a Minion. The young girl whimpered and flinched as the Minion waved a bat at her, intimidating and bullying the poor Inkling. Meggy didn't waste a minute, she fired on the Minion, knocking him down and attended to the girl.

"Th-Thank you, Meggy." The female Inkling said, "That little guy was not so cute."

"Just get to safety…" Meggy instructed, "I'll handle the situation until a solution comes up."

Thanking Meggy again, the blue Inkling ran off to find the nearest shelter. Meggy observed the situation of the Minion-infested Inkopolis with uncertainty; Fires burned, glass shattered, citizens were running and crying out in terror and Minions ran around like a swarm of mosquitos out to drink blood, stirring up as much chaos and trouble as they possibly could.

Meggy shook her head; she couldn't stop now, people needed help. She ran off, splatting any Minions that were close by and either attacking people or about to cause further property damage. The former Inkling hopped back into her car, started up the engines and got moving again.

She drove through the Minion-infested suburbs, assessing the extent of the chaos and splatting any nearby Minions whenever she could, keeping her hand on the wheel and making sure she didn't crash into anything by accident while occasionally splatting enemies. A van drove by, narrowly missing Meggy by inches, with a pair of Minions at the wheel before crashing into a wall and exploding in flames.

'That was close...' Meggy thought, "Maybe a little too close for comfort honestly.'

Driving through her old hometown infested with Minions while fighting them was a real challenge; Meggy was all for challenges, but she knew how serious the situation was. The former Inkling stepped on the gas, driving faster through the streets, and rode under a freeway overpass.

Meggy sped through an intersection, passed by a wall and drove into Inkopolis Plaza with the iconic green Inkopolis Plaza standing tall; even as Meggy could see a couple of Minions causing a ruckus up there just as the rest of their buddies were stirring up one calamari of a ruckus. Meggy could see a few citizens making an effort to fight back, even as many others were running in a panic.

Captain Cuttlefish was nearby, smacking a Minion with his cane and knocking him out with a lump on the yellow guy's head. The captain may have been old, but he had plenty of fight left in him.

"Those pesky trouble-making hoodlum gremlins disruptin' the peace and causin' a ruckus!" The old Inkling yelled, "Someone needs to wipe all of 'em out, no matter how hard to wipe them away, these things keep poppin' back up to cause more antics and disrupt our society in any way they can think up! Think you can help an old-timer here, Meggy?"

"I got your back, Cap'n!" Meggy called, "Just don't exhaust yourself!"

She rushed to Cuttlefish's side, splatting out several Minions and blasting a pack of them away with a couple Splat-bombs, causing the streets of the plaza to be covered in orange ink with hints of yellow from the Minions as well as some blue, likely from their overalls.

Cuttlefish drew a Splat-Charger and fired off a well-timed shot, splattering away a row of Minions. A loud yowl told Meggy that Judd was awake, she spotted the white and gray-black cat chasing a Minion with an angry expression on his face and poking one with his flags. Judd hissed and raised his paws, revealing his claws, then he pounced upon an unsuspecting Minion.

"AHHHH! BAD KITTY! BAD KITTY-KITTY!" The Minion wailed, "AHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

"Baby kitty cat!" Another Minion cried.

Li'l Judd was running through the chaos, meowing in terror as Minions pursued him. The sight of Judd's little clone in jeopardy did not sit well with Meggy, especially with how precious he was to Judd. There was no doubt that Judd and everyone else would be upset if something happened to Li'l Judd and Meggy couldn't begin to imagine Tari's face the next time she came to Inkopolis if that happened.

Meggy ran into the heart of the plaza in Li'l Judd's direction, splatting the Minions that were pursuing him with the intent of harassing the little guy, and she scooped him up in her arms just in time.

"Mrow. (Thanks, Meggy.)" Li'l Judd mewed, "Meow, mrow. (Please get rid of them...)"

"It's okay, Li'l Jud..." Meggy scratched the small cat clone on the head, "Everything will be okay in the end, don't worry about the scary Minion creatures coming after us, Meggy and her friends will protect you and Judd."

The former Inkling handed Li'l Judd over to the real Judd, who hugged his clone and then ran off to find a safe place for them to ride out the chaos. Just then, a huge swarm of Minions pounced on Meggy, pinning her to the ground and screaming random things. Meggy yelped with shock, taken off-guard by the unexpected attack.

More Minions pounced, pig-piling Meggy and burying her in swarms of yellow masses. But no sooner than she'd been taken by surprise, she quickly regained her confidence and resolve. No matter how many times life knocked you down, always get back up, no matter what.

With her face brimming with determination, Meggy found her strength and shot back up, throwing several Minions off of herself. She splatted one that was hugging her leg, knocking it back, then she kicked away another and punched another Minion in the face hard enough to send him flying. The squid-turned human was not going down without a fight; no matter how endless the hordes were.

She observed the chaos once more, citizens were cowering in terror and the city was degrading further into anarchy. And as far as Meggy knew, she, Captain Cuttlefish and perhaps a few others were the only ones who could step in as Inkopolis' defense against these wacky but dangerous invaders now.

One way or another, the next hour of the unfolding battle would determine the fate of Inkopolis; Either Inkling-kind stood strong or it fell to the insanity of the Minions.

Meggy primed her Splattershot again, standing side-by-side with Captain Cuttlefish as they faced down the enemy, ready to fight for peace; Order vs. Chaos, a battle that had been fought before. This was nothing like the Turf Wars, nothing like Splatfest or the many other battles that the former Inkling had faced on every adventure she'd experienced alongside her friends.

"No back-up, no reinforcements coming, no plans..." Cuttlefish said with grim uncertainty, "We stand alone with our city overrun. But we will not surrender, FOR FREEDOM!"

"FOR INKOPOLIS!" Meggy raised her Splattershot in agreement, "AND FOR OUR FRIENDS!"

The two combatants braced themselves as Minions began to encircle them, staring ominously at Meggy and Cuttlefish, the tension growing and nearing the tipping point. Meggy prepared to fire off more shots and utilize her other weapons at her disposal, Cuttlefish raised his Splat-Charger. The circle became tighter, the uncertainty building and the tension getting higher by the minute...

Just then, before any more shots could be fired and before the chaos could escalate, the Minions froze in place. Meggy and Cuttlefish looked at each other, wondering why they were stopping. Then, a Minion next to Meggy whimpered and fell to his knees.

And the next thing she knew, the Minion disintegrated away into dust, followed by another. One-by-one, to everyone's astonishment, the Minions were all fading away into dust. And before Meggy knew it; all of the Minions were gone, if neither of those things had ever existed. It was over, somehow or another, Meggy and her friends had defeated impossible odds again.

Exhausted from the battle, Meggy sat down on the nearest bench, taking in the calm while the Inklings came out of hiding. With the Minions gone, everything was finally at peace once more...

The End
