Chapter 1!

Another new story but it's one I've been sitting on forever. Finally doing an Izumi x Tooru pairing which I'm looking forward to as well as getting another varied Izumi to write with.

To everyone who faved, followed, or reviewed thank you so much!

Enjoy, more notes at the end!

Chapter 1: Light & Dark

*Mina POV*

Mina hadn't expected an eventful day until she spotted a familiar set of floating clothes.

"Tooru?" the horned girl called out, getting the floating clothes to turn towards her.

"Hm? Mina!" the invisible girl happily noted with a hop in her step as she ran over to greet her. "What are you doing here?" Tooru asked cheerfully and Mina gave her a grin.

"I wanted to do some shopping," the pink girl answered with a laugh, "what about you?" she wondered back and the invisible girl hummed pleasantly.

"Same here!" she cheered and Mina made a faux grumble.

"What, you should have dropped me a line then," she playful teased but her classmate just laughed at her gesture.

"Maybe next time," Tooru waved off with a smile in her voice. "I've got a date today," she suddenly revealed and the pink haired girl perked up at the information.

"Seriously?" she questioned in unrestrained curiosity, "since when were you with someone?" she prodded, interested in getting the full story, and her invisible friend made a somewhat bashful pose.

"We went to middle school together and we've been dating for a year already," Tooru explained cutely, probably thinking about how she'd met them, and Mina gave a cheeky grin before pressing for more details.

"You never brought this up before," the horned girl suddenly remembered and her friend gave her a forgetful giggle. "Got any pics?" Mina asked while the invisible girl immediately began searching her pockets for her phone.

"Of course," her cheery friend beamed, fishing the thing out and eagerly holding the screen up, and the pink haired girl took in the image.

Considering Tooru, Mina had expected a much different person than what she got in the picture. The photo was clearly taken by the invisible girl and it captured the person's entire body from the side while they peered over towards her as they sipped from the straw of their drink. It was another girl, her semi-long, slightly messy black hair drawn into a ponytail while the sides hung down and her bangs brushed around her almost tired and disinterested green eyes. She had a black, spiked choker on, a black short sleeve crop top that had a white heart shape with an EKG going through it, a long pure black skirt with a high cut split on one side, black, high platform, buckle boots that went just below her knees, and finally a leather studded black bracelet on her left wrist and some ear piercings. Just based on her looks it was very easy to get the vibe that this girl let off.

"I didn't expect a goth girlfriend," Mina said honestly, her friend not being bothered, and the horned girl hummed as she studied the photo more. "She looks kinda familiar though," she realized but still couldn't place just where she'd seen the girl's face before.

"Her name's Midoriya Izumi," Tooru provided happily, "her hair's actually kind of green-ish but she dyes it," she added in before continuing. "You saw her at the Sport's Festival," the invisible girl reminded and Mina wracked her brain trying to place her, "she's being transferred into our class," Tooru also tacked on and the horned girl finally got it.

"I remember her now," Mina nodded, having misplaced her because of the change in outfit but now recalling the girl from her perpetual gloomy disinterest. "She didn't look like she cared about transferring though," the pinkette raised and Tooru seemed to be nodding her head in agreement.

"Izumi had been on the fence about joining the hero course since applying for high schools," the invisible girl laid out in explanation while crossing her arms. "She's not exactly a people person and interacting with others is part of the hero job," Tooru supplied while chuckling in good nature, "she's also not super into heroes or anything," the girl added on but it only made Mina more skeptical.

"Kinda surprising that she chose to transfer then," the horned pinkette had to note truthfully but Tooru only made a noise of agreement.

"Yeah," the invisible girl quipped back, "but she'll be great, I'm sure of it," Tooru assured with the utmost certainty and Mina had to smile at the vote of confidence.

"Anyways, I guess opposites attracting is true huh?" the pink girl poked, switching back to the fun part of the conversation, and her friend waved her invisible arms.

"Izumi can be super cute too," Tooru argued, intent on boasting about her girlfriend which made Mina laugh, "look at this," the invisible girl said while pulling her phone back up.

Tooru swiped at her phone and showed off another photo that appeared to be a surprise selfie courtesy of the invisible girl. True to her word, Midoriya instead had a face like a startled cat with her shoulders hunched up and her eyes full of surprise while her mouth made an awkward shape as she jumped. Considering her initial impression of Tooru's girlfriend, this definitely made it into the cute category and the pink haired girl gave a thumbs up of approval.

"Anyway, I don't want to keep her waiting!" the invisible girl suddenly said while checking the time on her phone. "She's probably standing off in a corner somewhere to avoid crowds," she giggled which prompted a laugh from Mina as well at the mental image.

"Have fun," the pinkette called happily, waving her friend off, "I'll see you, and meet her, in class."

"Later!"

Mina watched her friend rush off cheerily before getting on her way and thinking of her new potential friend in Midoriya.

Tooru's girlfriend was going to take a little getting used to.

Mina had thought that Midoriya would be shy based on what the invisible girl said but instead it seemed that Tooru meant the girl was indifferent. Her personality was certainly on the dry side and that especially came through in her disinterested eyes. She wasn't quite like Todoroki but she certainly was another person of few words for the most part. She didn't quite have an issue speaking but it took a little to coax words from her and the green eyed girl was a touch on the blunt side too. Although, Midoriya did gain a more obvious range of emotions when talking or interacting with Tooru. The black haired girl also tended to remain close to her girlfriend and sought her out as a source of comfort particularly in a group setting.

Most of the class caught on pretty quickly that Midoriya wasn't exactly the most social of people so after at least getting introductions out off the way they all pretty much went back to their own devices. They did still need to pick somewhere for their own respective internships and after getting her choices made Mina peeked over to her new classmate who was examining the provided list for those without offers while tapping a pencil in an open notebook. The black haired girl kept her relatively dreary expression but Tooru snuck up behind her and leaned over her shoulder while pressing up against her and Mina held in a giggle as Midoriya froze up with an awkward look on her face before easing.

"Is that your outfit Izumi?" the invisible girl questioned while probably looking in her girlfriend's notebook, "It's cute!"

"I thought you'd say it's cool," Midoriya replied with a sort of dry amusement and a small smile spread on her lips while her eyes carried a hint of softness.

"It's cute and cool!" Tooru claimed, hugging her while the green eyed girl placed down her pencil.

Midoriya reached her hand up and seemed to place it on the invisible girl's cheek which made Tooru giggle and Mina watched as the two continued to interact. Their new classmate was much less awkward with Tooru and at the very least it was obvious that Midoriya really liked the invisible girl as opposed to how she appeared disinterested in everything and everyone else.

She'd take some getting used to but Mina was sure that Midoriya was a good person.

*Power Loader POV*

Hatsume had brought the girl out of nowhere one day.

The support course teacher had come back to the workshop to find a hero course student organizing Hatsume's workspace while his student tinkered with her gadgets unbothered.

Neither of the two students really spoke or acknowledged one another and simply continued about their own tasks undisturbed. The other girl didn't even seem remotely interested in anything in the workshop, in fact the general demeanor she gave off was mild tiredness with maybe the barest hint of exasperation, but every so often her bored eyes would scan whatever she was sorting out just a few seconds longer than usual before she shuffled the blueprint or piece away to where it belonged.

He recognized the student of course, Midoriya had been moved into 1-A after placing well in the Sport's Festival, but he honestly saw no reason for why she kept hanging around and organizing things for Hatsume. The two seemed to have nothing in common and Midoriya left whenever she felt like it, never uttering a word, and the pink haired inventor didn't comment either. Sometimes she'd pass behind the girl and place a tool or a print on the desk and Hatsume would use it soon after without even acknowledging that the things she needed suddenly appeared next to her. The hero peered over from his own workspace on a day in the which Midoriya wasn't present and watched as his student dug around her scrap pile for a while before calling over to her.

"I didn't realize you were acquainted with Midoriya," Higari started but his student gave him a blank smile as she appeared to be trying to figure out what he was talking about.

"Who?" Hatsume suddenly replied, clearly not knowing the name, and the teacher sighed while trying to find a way to explain it in a way the girl would understand.

"The girl who organizes your workspace," he offered and Hatsume hummed while rummaging through some parts.

"Is that her name?" the pink haired girl asked aloud, likely not needing an answer, "I thought she was just a fairy that got me what I needed," Hatsume stated matter of factly and Higari tinkered with his own inventions.

"You didn't even know her name?" he asked, a bout of silence between the two save the clinking of parts, and the student sat back at her work station.

"We've never talked," Hatsume answered but it didn't bother her one bit, "she popped up one day and comes and goes whenever," she elaborated a bit further and the teacher mulled over the information.

"That's strange," he commented back.

His student didn't grace him with a response, she was fully back to tinkering away, and the teacher wondered just why Midoriya bothered doing such a thing. The hero course student didn't use any support gear currently and her hero costume wasn't much more than a regular, if not uncommon, outfit so it wasn't hard to make at all. It didn't exactly bother him but he just couldn't help but be a tad curious.

Well, it likely wasn't that important anyway.

*Tenya POV*

Tenya thought he had shaken his newest classmate in the confusion of the Hosu attack but he was beginning to think she had followed him.

He had been concerned about her the moment she chose the same agency as him, citing that she'd feel better working alongside someone familiar, but he couldn't read any obvious thoughts or emotions from her blank gaze. Even through the internship her eyes remained disinterested and at times they would linger on things or people longer and in an unsettling fashion. Tenya already had his thoughts full with finding Stain but he'd be broken from his focus as Midoriya's almost dead stare found its way to him. The black haired girl also opted to not comment much and if their eyes met she would just continue to stare plainly until you conceded first.

Now, as he laid frustrated in the alley and at the mercy of the villain who had crippled his brother, Tenya could hear faint, unhurried, footsteps behind him and the Hero Killer seemed to jump back. The blue haired boy couldn't look around to see what was happening but Stain made a cautious sound as the steps halted.

"Your execution was poor," Tenya heard the villain lecture, clearly talking about whatever made him retreat, and a dry voice responded to him.

"I just needed you to back off," his new classmate Midoriya returned from somewhere behind Tenya. "I'm not here to fight," the black haired girl admitted, "I just want these two to live," she explained and the blue haired boy could hear the Hero Killer hiss.

"That one is a fake," Stain firmly stated with a venomous tone, the sound of metal being gripped following his words, "and this one is no different."

"I don't have much to offer but can we reach a compromise?" the injured boy heard his classmate ask and Tenya's mind raced for what she was trying to do.

Was she trying to stall the villain alongside keeping them safe and if so had she already contacted the heroes? They couldn't allow Stain to escape, no Tenya refused to allow it, but Midoriya wouldn't fair any better against the Hero Killer than he or Native had. However, the boy was stirred from his thoughts as the villain shifted cautiously.

"Speak," he ordered and Tenya could hear Midoriya let loose a breath.

"All I can bargain is your guaranteed escape for their lives," the green eyed girl proposed and Tenya nearly yelled out at her but the words and frustrations remained stuck in his throat. "I heard that Endeavor was here and looking for you as well," Midoriya informed, likely a means to both threaten and convince the villain, and the Hero Killer went silent for a moment.

Soon enough the villain grumbled at the name but responded calmly, "I see," he noted, seemingly processing the information, "it's indeed unfavorable for me."

"Then we have a deal?" the black haired girl pressed hastily.

"I'll return this time," Stain assured and Tenya tried to again force his body up to no avail, "but don't believe I can be bargained with again," the villain warned with a sinister tone.

"I'm not expecting that we meet again," Midoriya dryly responded but there was a slight edge in her voice that gave away her wariness.

"If that's the case then you'll get to keep your life," the bladed man told them and Tenya could hear the villain retreating while he saw Midoriya come up to his side and kneel down.

"I'll keep it in mind," the green eyed girl nodded, keeping her eyes trained on the killer, and Tenya could only lay there bitterly.

His classmate continued to stare off for a while and eventually she turned to him and the injured pro hero and began looking over their injuries. A moment more and their bodies were finally free from Stain's quirk and Tenya trailed his eyes on the girl.

"You..." he began, not able to properly find what emotion he was truly feeling, "you let him escape," he uttered with a sense of disbelief and Midoriya's gloomy gaze met his.

"Yeah, I did," she replied plainly, returning her attention elsewhere as if it wasn't a problem, and Tenya's angry swelled before exploding.

"Couldn't you have called heroes to our location!" he tried, at his limit from the events, "you were already stalling him!" he yelled but Midoriya didn't appear concerned or regretful.

"Is that what you did?" she retorted in a dull voice, "I wasn't aware your quirk gave you another life," she jabbed rudely though not losing her natural expression and the blue haired boy shook in rage.

"I-" he began but was cut off as the girl raised a hand.

"I don't need complaints nor thanks," she told him simply, her gaze disinterested once more, "I just did what I had to," she claimed and she once more looked in the direction that the Hero Killer fled.

Tenya had no words but he certainly couldn't accept this.

Notes and Stuff

Per usual it's a referenced power from elsewhere but I've tweaked it in someways. It's also very important that I keep Izumi's quirk hidden for a bit.

I've been wanting to do an Izumi x Tooru pairing for the longest time but I've just never been able to get it going until now. Honestly, other than tweaking the power and getting a general plot I had trouble thinking of what kind of Izumi I wanted to pair with Tooru and then my brain said Tooru gets a goth girlfriend and this happened.

Anyway, off the bat they're already dating and we're starting right after the whole Stain ordeal with the man escaping. I've very intentionally decided to go with a faster pace in these initial establishing chapters but I'll slow down a little once we're settled in more.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed and look forward to more updates from me!
