Disclaimer: I don't own Star Wars.
"You're kidding?! And then you was there with Obi-Wan when Leia and I were born?! Just before our mother died?!"
R2-D2 bleeped in reply. He had just been telling the stories of the many exiting adventures he had been on with Obi-Wan Kenobi - to an aghast Luke Skywalker.
The young Jedi was astounded. He couldn't believe that his little blue droid had been through so much with the old Jedi Master who had trained his father. The two of them had been together through the fall of the Trade Federation, the rise of the Clone Wars and the beginning of the Empire - as well as Anakin's fall to the Dark Side to become Darth Vader.
Through it all, R2 had been there with Obi-Wan.
And how did Obi-Wan react upon seeing R2 for the first time in years? Having been present for their reunion on Tatooine, Luke could remember all too well.
"Don't seem to remember ever owning a droid."
"That must've really stung when he said that in front of you," Luke said softly as he gave a sympathetic pat of R2's dome. "If Obi-Wan were here now, I'd sure speak to him about this."
"Well I'm here right now, Luke," said a voice. "What do you want to speak me about?"
Luke swung around. He was astonished to see the Force Ghost of the very person he and R2 had just been talking about. Obi-Wan stood before him. The Jedi Master's whole body was glowing luminously - as it always did ever since he had been struck down by Darth Vader.
"You knew R2?!" Luke exclaimed. "Not only did you know Darth Vader was actually Dad Vader, you also knew my droid?"
"Of course." Obi-Wan admitted, glancing at R2. "When I saw him for the first time in years, during the moment I saved you from the Sand People, I recognised him straight away. Why do you think I kept calling him my little friend?"
R2 whistled. He could well remember when Obi-Wan had turned from an unconscious Luke to face him, pulled down his hood to reveal his face and greeted him in his legendary way: "Hello there!"
"So you and R2 have been through so much together?" Luke said, "From seeing my father turn to the Dark Side to seeing me and Leia being born?"
"That's right," Obi-Wan affirmed.
"And yet you told me you never owned a droid!" Luke scowled with a narrow of his eyes. "Why?!"
"Because I didn't," Obi-Wan said simply. "Your little droid here was the property of your parents, not me. He served your mother and father in their missions. I just happened to be involved in the very same shenanigans they would get into - in which he would willingly assist. He helped me out on many occasions. He's very brave and loyal for a machine - something I've never been a big fan of. We most certainly went through so much together - but he was never my droid."
Obi-Wan paused for a moment, taking in Luke's face as the young boy tried to make sense of all he had told to him, before giving him a smile as he concluded his explanation with some words he had used before.
"So what I told you was true … from a certain point of view."
At these words, R2 bleeped angrily. This was the second time he had witnessed Obi-Wan using the 'certain point of view' nonsense on Luke - and now he was dragging him into it.
"Your language is still as foul as ever," Obi-Wan said, gazing nostalgically towards the astromech. "After all these years, you haven't changed a bit, my little friend."
R2 snorted. As far as he was concerned, he and Obi-Wan were no longer friends. If he hadn't been a Force Ghost right now, the little droid would have taken out all of his inner gadgets - all of which he would be using to to brutally zap and electrocute the ever-lying, misleading, deceitful Jedi Master.
The end.
