Chapter One – Prologue – The Last of a Kind

Sukko The Hedgehog was the lesser known identical twin brother of the significantly more famous Sonic The Hedgehog. Sukko sighed and rolled his eyes. Yes, that was true, and yes, he was incredibly proud of his brother and his achievements. The Hero of Mobius, the King of Speed but there was much more to the relatively unknown twin then met the eye. The King of Stealth kept largely to himself, and therefore as a result, the world as a whole knew nothing of his existence. Sonic had told no one.

But why all the secrecy? Shouldn't Sukko be proud to stand side-by-side with his brother and fight Eggman. Sukko heaved, he would've loved that, it was just that fate had other plans for him. He was born with the wrong powers.

Sukko had Chaos Sorcery.

Chaos Sorcery, also known as Magic, was the most feared of all the Chaos Powers. It had lead to many a good person becoming corrupted because of it. Of all the mental Chaos Powers, such as Telepathy and Psychokinesis, Chaos Sorcery gasps the mind the strongest and doesn't let go. The power takes control, leading to corruption, and pure darkness and evil. As a result of this, all the Sorcerers including children and their families, were all slaughtered, in what was simply known as the Purge. That was decades ago, but it was still in the living memories of some. As a result, the handful of Sorcerers that did survive, were forced to hide, including the twins' own mother, Bernadette. A skilled nurse, she masqueraded her powers as Chaos Heal, an entirely legal Chaos Power, the exact same trick Sukko did as a Doctor, to hide the truth. No one found out.

She got away with it, but Sukko wasn't so lucky, and several people at the hospital where he worked were getting dangerous close. Too close for Sukko's liking. The powerful Sorcerer was a fully qualified doctor, board certified, and earning his tattoo. The serpent-entwined rod, Asclepius, in black on his right arm. The highest honour in Mobian medicine. Somewhat of a rebel, Sukko had an enormous jet black tattoo of a dragon down the entire length of his back. Also incredibly highly proficient at Magic, the Sorcerer was very illusive. Sonic's complete polar opposite, Sukko didn't like fame or crowds. He was calm, quiet and very reserved, and a Goth. He loved all things black. When he wasn't wearing the white doctor's coat for work, he lived in the black, and had the tattoos, and the love of heavy metal music and gothic horror that went with it. He was the 'Tea Drinking Goth'.

He was now a Senior Emergency Medical Physician at Robotropolis County General Hospital, working in the Emergency Room, the E.R., and Frank, his boss and several of the nurses were beginning to get suspicious. His 'Chaos Heal' was simply far too powerful then it should have been and was drawing attention. But Sukko's couldn't help it. His Chaos Sorcery was growing rapidly and he had been struggling to keep a lid on it. He'd just acquired the power to Orb, to teleport at will via balls of bright white light, and now he realised he was being followed around the hospital, with visitations by the Mobian Authorities now becoming far more frequent.

Now the King of Stealth had to make a choice. His job or his brother. If Sukko was caught as the last Sorcerer, as he'd never found another, then his twin brother would also certainly die along with him. Even if Sonic had no Chaos Sorcery as such, just one singular cast. Teleport. The Mobian Authorities could still come for him. Rumours were still riff of a Sorcerer still being alive in the planet. Would his relationship to the Hero of Mobius save him? Potentially yes, but that wasn't guaranteed. He didn't want to risk it, especially now as the war against Eggman was coming to an end.

On Mobius, Eggman had been severely pushed back, as Sonic and company were on the verge of winning. The Human's surrender was now extremely close. It was all hands on deck during that very final fight, including Sonic's incredibly illusive identical brother Sukko. Some had heard of him, some hadn't. He had been backing Sonic up as a senior E.R. Doctor in Robotropolis, paying for everything his brother needed and now the fight, and that help, was coming to an end. It was getting tedious, Sonic could see it in Sukko's eyes and with Chaos Sorcery still being illegal on Mobius, Sukko still wasn't truly free to be himself, even after Eggman's defeat.

So finally, with this thought, Sukko reluctantly decided he wanted out, but having no idea where to go. He stood there in his office in the hospital, and cried his heart out. He didn't want to leave, but he had no choice. His beloved twin brother meant more to him then his job, though it absolutely adored it. Sukko shared the incredibly pure white heart that made Sonic who he was, and the reason why Sukko never corrupted, and never would. If Sukko had been born anyone else with the Magic, he would have long since fallen to the dark side. It was why his brother was so special to him. He opened the draw of his desk and brought out a letter, buried deep in the bottom, all ready to go, just for this event. His official resignation, effective immediately, addressed to Frank, his boss.

It was just the twins left. Sukko had no children and had never married. But he was desperate not to be mistaken for his brother, which being identical, wasn't easy. To keep the Chaos Sorcery hidden, Mobius had to believe that Sukko didn't exist, or at the very least, no one making the family connection between them. With his skills in Illusion, he could have lived his entire life behind someone else. A disguise. But Sukko didn't want to. Those Illusions were hell to maintain and very tiring, the drain horrendous.

Sukko sighed. He was well aware of the dangers of Magic casting could do, and well as the drain. The ability to cast Chaos Sorcery was the Chaos Power, however, it was not free. Repeated casting, or extremely high-level casting, took it toll on the body and mind, regularly knocking out the Sorcerer. This was drain, and had been the bane of Sukko's life for years. That was why he wasn't so keen about being on the front line. Being in the background, made it much easier to sleep off the Magic. This was why working as a Doctor worked so well. The casting was relatively light and it was easy to sleep between shifts. He was also aware of the corruption Magic could cause. He had Telepathy. The level of control he could inert on those who minds he caught was staggering and nothing feared him more. Sukko would rather take his own life then succumb to the corruption. But he had to stay true to himself and more importantly, true to his family, to keep the corruption at bay. He preyed it was enough. But he wanted to be different to his brother. So he decided to grow out his quills, which for a male Hedgehog, was extremely difficult to do. It had taken years, and he'd decided to do it when he'd gained acceptance to medical school.

Nowadays, his quills didn't point out the back, like his twin, but they fell down right past his shoulders and all the way to his whist, pointing to the floor. He was often mistaken for an Echidna, as it was only the triangular ears on his head that actually gave him away as a Hedgehog. He smirked, not a bad species to be compared too. But whereas an Echidna's quills were dreadlocked, Sukko's were not. They were soft and smooth, and it took a lot of time and effort to get them, and keep them that way.

In Hedgehogs, quills in males and females grow differently. In females, they are naturally soft, but in males, they are very hard. The girls tended to grow their quills out long and the guys kept them short. Perfect for cutting, grinding and digging, especially when spinning, but Sukko wasn't his brother, and even though he could somersault, he couldn't Spin-dash. As a Sorcerer, he had no use for his quills to be hard, so his subtly used his Magic for years to gentle soften them, as they grew, until now where he could tie them back in a low ponytail at the back of his head. He loved them, as it went with his Goth, heavy metal music loving persona perfectly. He sighed.

He became the Doctor to try and match his brother as the Hero of Mobius, as he had the same drive as his twin to help people. He had no younger siblings either, it was just himself and his twin, the eldest of the two. Still the sons of Jules Hedgehog, the world famous Air Speed Racer, with Sukko inheriting his father's ability to fly, their mother, Bernadette, a nurse Sorceress, hiding the truth from everyone. Jules and Bernadette had been murdered and the twins had been forced to flee to Robotropolis from the House of Robotnik. They ran for their lives, aged two years old, where they still remain to this day. But Sukko wasn't so sure. With Eggman impeding demise, he suspected he'd be leaving Robotropolis behind for good. The same Magic was there, in Sukko as always and now he had to decide what to do. But he deeply sniffed. He never understood something. Why was he born with such a power in a place that just didn't want it? Even Sonic wasn't immune, and it left the mighty Sorcerer thinking his path was no longer here. That his path firmly lay elsewhere. But where? Sukko had no idea, but he had a hunch he'd soon find out.

He took off his long white Doctor's coat, revealing the enormous black dragon tattoo down his back and the black serpent-entwined rod, Asclepius, on his right arm. Years of time, hard work and dedication went into earning that tattoo and now it meant nothing. Looking somber, Sukko, stood there in his absolutely identical twin glory, a stunning Blue Hedgehog looking and smelling fantastic. He had large emerald-green eyes, peach muzzle and belly and a nice smile. He wore knee high dark brown and beige patterned leather boots, with no socks and grey soles. He had a pair of white gloves with silver bracelets, over the thin cuffs on his hands. He was broader and heavier then his twin, and his muscles could clearly be seen across his chest. He put the Blue Blur to serious shame.

He felt someone mentally prod him, making him smile. Sonic, his brother, had felt his tears and had come running. He spoke down the Physic Link. Their ability to hear each other voices, inside each other minds, a trait of identical twins, was sometimes, the only thing keeping Sukko sane in these difficult times. Sonic sighed.

{Hey, you alright?} He asked. His voice sounded distance. He could be anywhere on Mobius, as the twins had yet to find their limit, but right now Sukko didn't care, he was here with him. That was all that mattered. He sniffed.

{I don't want to do this.} He cried, the resignation letter still in his hand. Sonic knew exactly what. They had been talking about it for weeks down the Physic Link. But the Blue Blur knew they didn't have a choice. He gave another deep sigh.

{Look, you have to. We can't have the Mobian Authorities finding out the truth, and as you said so yourself, they have been getting dangerously close.} He heaved. {We have pushed Eggman back so hard, that one final fight and the Human will be down, permanently.} He smiled. {And I would be honoured if you'd stand by my side during that fight.} He beamed, incredibly proud. Sukko smiled. He like that, and now he had something to work towards. He'd seen the fight out this far. It would be a pity to miss the ending. He nodded in reply and Sonic, feeling it was delighted. He signed off the Physic Link to who knows where, leaving Sukko alone again. He sighed.

He'd been gone from the E.R. for far too long and he knew that Frank, his boss would come looking for him. If he was doing this, it was now or never. He looked around his office and with a single snap of the finger, he sent Orbing with balls of bright white light, all his belongings back to his home. The Penthouse Suite, in the Rochester Building, the tallest skyscraper on Robotropolis. A few minutes later, everything was gone but him. He heard commotion out in the corridor, and found Frank looking for him, direct on course to his office, with security. Why, no idea, but didn't want to hang around. Did he know the truth? That Sukko was the Sorcerer. Again, no idea, but the Hedgehog didn't stay to find out. With a second snap of the finger, suddenly, something immediately Orbed straight into his hand, a mass of bright white lights. It was his long black coat. It was an impressive piece of Magic, teleporting his coat, straight from the Penthouse. With an enormous swish, he threw it onto his back, and heaved. In his long black coat was where he belonged, he was a Sorcerer after all, even if he was also a dam good Doctor.

If he was going to leave, he was going to go as exactly who he was and when he met Frank's eyes face-to-face through the glass window of the door of his office, time to get out of there. Suddenly surrounded by bright white light that forced Frank to protect his eyes, Sukko orbed straight out of the hospital to his magical Sealed home of the Penthouse Suite. The white balls of light rose up, and when the light finally had vanished, so had Sukko, as Frank opened the door. Confused, he found the resignation letter on Sukko's desk and knew he never see the incredible Hedgehog again.

That was how the mighty Sorcerer ended up side-by-side with his powerful twin, the Hero of Mobius, in the final fight against Eggman. In the dead of night, and everyone was there. He was in disguise. An old one of his, using his power of illusion. He never bothered at the hospital. No one knew that the Hero of Mobius had an identical twin brother and they wanted to keep it that way. To avoid questions being asked, which could potentially drawn unwanted attention towards the Chaos Sorcery. Apart, it was relatively simple, but together, it was just too obvious, so better for Sukko to hide.

Several people had noticed Sukko's likeness to the Blue Blur but he just waved it away as entirely coincidental, their personalities being so polar opposite that no one ever questioned it. That was true. Sukko had Magic, a mental Chaos Power, Sonic, a physical, with the Super-Speed. Sukko was cool, calm, quiet and reserved, the Blue Blur was fast, active and very hyper. Even their food choices reflected this. It was weird, but yet it worked. But took some getting used to, but their opposite natures didn't rule everything they did. There was some crossovers. Neither Hedgehog was evil, and both desperately wanted to help the people of Mobius. It was just that each of them found their own individual way of doing this. Sonic became the Hero of Mobius, a soldier, and Sukko, a Doctor.

But not anymore, as now they were down to mission's end. Sonic growled, calling the shots. His long, beautifully manicured royal blue quills flowing down his back, shimmering in the moonlight of the slightly overcast night above them, his blue fur clean. His large green eyes, bright and sparkly. His long legs stood firm into the ground, his cherry red shoes with the famous red stripes, ready to go. His white gloved hands clenched at his side and he gritted his teeth, his eyes fixed on Eggman.

Sukko was seriously impressed. He had not seen the frontline against Eggman in years and the situation was dire, well, for the Human. He raised an eyebrow through his disguise, smirking at the Human's last attempt for survival. Eggman's last stronghold, his territory, had been reduced to dust. Every base destroyed, every building flattened. All the Human had left now was the last of his robot army, which now surrounded him, opposite them. Sukko suspected that this level of destruction wasn't entirely his brother's doing as he spied an extremely angry Ultimate Lifeform the other side of him. He knew Shadow The Hedgehog purely by reputation only, and had feared for his brother against him, but Sonic had reassured him that he could be trusted.

Shadow stood there trembling with anger. His large sleek black body lengthening, outstretching his white gloved fingers, and twisting his wrists, his gold Inhibitors Rings upon them, shining. His long red stripes down both his arms and legs, and his black upturned quills with their magnificent red stripes, on his head and flowing down his back behind him. His white chest fur looking somewhat rough this late of the day. He gained a lot of weight over the recent years, in pure muscle, and even though Sonic was slightly taller then him, the Ultimate Lifeform was still boarder. He narrowed his eyes, his deep crimson iris', glowing red as deep anger took hold. He looked somewhat beaten and battered, and Sukko gulping, had heard rumours of Shadow have been recently captured and tortured by Eggman.

There was definitely vengeance in those eyes, and Sukko was glad to be completely ignored by him. He had no idea who he was, and Sukko decided to leave it that way. He did wonder, however, if Eggman was actually going to survive the night and the upcoming battle. Seeing the fire in the Ultimate Lifeform's eyes, he suspected not. Sukko then looked to his other side and saw a two tailed Fox and a red Echidna. He knew of them as his brother's friends and comrades at arms, but they knew nothing of him. Sonic had told no one. The fear of being found out that Magic was in the family, was enough to keep his mouth shut.

Sonic was certain the Chaos Sorcery flowed through his veins. He couldn't directly wield it, not outside of his one singular cast of Teleport. But it did enhance the abilities he did have, hence he could run faster, for far longer they anyone else, ever. Plus the Chaos Sorcery in his veins was exploding out his Super-Speed, causing new abilities with the power to emerge. Static Electricity, which manifested itself as pale blue sparks and lines of pure electricity, with voltages potentially going so high that he could wield lightning. His twin was now not the only Blue Hedgehog able to wield natural's electricity. For Sukko, it was illusionary, but even fake lightning could kill if enough power was behind it.

Sonic sighed, desperate to stay as calm as possible. The Static Electricity directly responded to his emotions, he stayed as numb and as professional as he could. He looked over to his twin and smirked. He recognised Sukko's disguise, and it was indeed an old one of his. The Hedgehog had dark green short fur and quills which were upturned, hiding Sukko's extremely long blue ones, with a single black stipe along to top of his head. He had knee-high dark brown boots, with a pale beige trim and stripe down the front. Light brown socks could be seen sticking out of the top of the boots. He had beige arms and muzzle, and wore clean white gloves. The eyes, emerald green. This irritated Sukko. He could change everything about his appearance. Species, height, even gender, but the eye colour always remained the same. It was a minor detail but it could potentially be enough to give him away. He hoped not.

Suddenly the moon disappeared behind ominous large black clouds, as a storm began rolling in extremely quickly and Sonic realised very fast that they had to get this battle done and soon before the weather called the whole thing off. Finally, with the entirety of the resistance gathered around, it was time to go. It was Eggman who made the first move, heading straight for them. The mighty Hero of Mobius made the call and his rag-tag army of Mobians moved forwards. Everyone was there, desperate to do their bit for freedom against the tyrant, including Sukko. The Mobians outnumbers Eggman's army, two to one, but that didn't mean it was going to be easy. All of the Human's remaining robots were also his more powerful, his strongest, as anything weaker would have already been destroyed. But Sonic, like always, as the professional soldier he was, had accounted for this, and he had the Fox, work overtime, to build weapons for the people to take these robots out, and it was working, as the two sides clashed in battle.

Metal crunched, lasers fired and fires burned, as one by one, the robots of Eggman mighty army fell. Sonic ran on ahead, taking Shadow with him, but Sukko stayed behind with the crowd. He'd been ordered by Sonic, down the Physic Link, to protect Tails, who as Sonic's right hand guy, was a potential target. Again, the Blue Blur was right, as always, as several of the robots made a beeline straight for him. Even though Sukko was an incredibly powerful Sorcerer, potentially the most powerful Chaos Creature on that field, he knew exactly how to fight without using any Magic. In the past, he hadn't had the choice, as revealing the truth simply wasn't an option. It was just too dangerous. To use any Chaos Sorcery on Mobius carried the death penalty, still to this day, and for his brother's sake, he daren't, as he would be killed too. So as a child growing up, he found a Martial Arts Master to teach the ways of self defense and Sukko excelled at it. So much so, that Sukko became a Master himself, a black belt in all thirty-six Martial Arts on Mobius, and out on the battle field, it really showed. Robots fell incredibly quickly at Sukko's hand. Tails was the first to noticed, having been saved by this mysterious Hedgehog he'd never seen before. He heaved.

"Wow, your really good." He praised. Sukko smirked, nodding but growled in frustration. He too had noticed the storm rolling, and saw this battle was taking far too long. Sonic and Shadow were headlong in a fight with an enormous Boss Robot, the Egg Emperor, with the Human himself in it, right at the back of the field. But they were struggling as it was beginning to rain. The smaller Robots were falling on mass but the Boss Robot as putting up a fight. Sukko roared in anger, he could finish this. There and then, here and now. He had the power. He gritted his teeth.

{Let me end this.} He heaved down the Physic Link. The fight against Eggman was never his fight. It was his brother's, and Sukko would never go against him. Sonic didn't reply immediately, but was panting heavily when he did.

{You can't.} He stammered. {Too many people about, what if your seen?} He gulped. Sukko roared again. Sonic was right but as the storm really poured down on them, suddenly lightning strikes landed all round them. People screamed as many fled for their lives. They had a matter of minutes to end this, before the weather forced them off the battlefield. Tails and Knuckles immediately stopped fighting robots and helped get their fellow Mobians to safety. Sukko looked around at the chaos and up at the storm. He smirked, as he had an idea. He gritted his teeth.

{Sonikku..} He called, only to be immediately cut across by the Blue Blur himself. Out of habit as the older twin, Sukko always called his twin brother by his full name. It meant 'Miracle' and a miracle worker he was. Sonic smiled.

{I hear you, brother.} He beamed, but Sukko gasped, stopping.

{What?} He exclaimed, but Sonic giggled.

{I share a Physic Link with not only a powerful Sorcerer but a Telepath, who sometimes doesn't always shut the door on his thoughts, so yes, I heard you and yeah, I like it, but it's risky. However...} He paused, as he attacked Eggman again and again. He heaved. {Under the circumstances, I think it's worth the risk. Who's going to notice one extra lightning strike in this storm. But we don't have long. Wait for my signal, I'll tell you exactly how and where to hit Eggman. If you can penetrate the shell of The Egg Emperor, me and Shadow will do the rest.} He advised. Sukko immediately agreed and ran to a more secluded part of the battlefield, which unfortunately was emptying fast as yet more lightning strikes fell all around them. The storm was full on, and Sukko knew they had less then a minute before someone came back looking for him. Sukko was panting.

{Quickly.} He heaved. Sonic and Shadow was still all over the Eggman. The Egg Emperor was proving incredibly tough. A huge hovering Boss Robot with arms and legs, and Eggman's cockpit in it's head. It's golden armour and enormous shield just repelled their attacks and Sonic was desperately looking all over it to find as to where Sukko could land the lightning strike to have the greatest effect. He heard Sukko panic, as they really only had a matter on moments, as nature's own lightning fell all around them. Then he saw it, right at the back of the neck, a weak point where an extremely precise lightning bolt could potentially take the entire electrics.

Sonic gulped. Was Sukko that good? He had no idea as he asked his brother to use his incredible Telepath on him, to see through his eyes. Sukko saw and gulped too. It was a shot in a million, but he had no choice. He concentrated and gritted his teeth, his eyes glowing blue, allowing the Chaos Sorcery within him to build, as he then looked skyward, above The Egg Emperor fight, now the last one left on the battlefield. All the other Robots had been destroyed, the Mobians fled. The storm set in hard, as the rain hammered down, and the wind picked up. But Sukko stood firm. Still in his disguise, and looking through his brother's eyes, and narrowed in on the target in question and let it rip. Filled with raw anger, he threw his hand skyward, touching his two middle fingers under his thumb but keeping the other two straightened, immediately an extremely fast, bright strike of vivid blue lighting came out of nowhere and struck the Egg Emperor exactly on target. It was so fast that both Sonic and Shadow were both forced to dodge it for their lives. Sukko had put a lot of power behind that strike and as fake as it was, it could have killed them. The panic it temporarily caused in Sonic caused his Static Electricity to explode, sending pale blue sparks of high voltage electricity everywhere, along with the natural lightning striking, it was hard to tell what was what, and resulted in highly dangerous pandemonium.

Immediately the Egg Emperor began to violently spasm and shake, as Shadow saw his chance to finally and permanently take out the Human. He was completely none the wiser as the mystical origins of that lightning strike. He just saw it as just a freak of nature and an opportunity to finish the job. But Sukko didn't get a chance to see. He been concentrating to hard on what was ahead of him, that he paid no attention to what was above him. The build up of Chaos Sorcery within him, effectively acted like a lightning rod to the storm, and as he rained lightning down on Eggman, he, himself, got struck, sending excruciating pain straight through him and down the Physic Link to his brother. They both screamed in agony. With the blinding flash of light, Sukko vanished, just as Tails came back to look for him. But then the Fox was then forced off the field as the storm really came in.

The pain grounded Sonic as he only narrowly avoided his brother's Magic, and watched as Shadow took out Eggman. The Human was dead. Sonic didn't argue as he desperately calmed his Static Electricity as the pain vanished just as quickly as it arrived and as he stared out across the battlefield, and at the crowd, he now felt incredibly alone. Suddenly, his eyes streamed with tears.

{Sukko?} He cried, down the Physic Link, desperate for a reply, but nothing.

His brother was gone.
