Chapter 26
There was a brief flash of golden light, and Filia stepped through the door. Awaiting her on the other side was the sisters Kerry and Somari. "Hey Goldie, been a while," Kerry said from her spot leaning against the opposite wall. The spell had opened up to a mostly unused hallway in the western side of the castle, if the small buildup of dust in the brickwork was anything to go by.
Filia gave her a polite smile, "so it has Miss kerry. Miss Somari, good evening but why are you-?"
"I'm here so he doesn't know you are just yet. I'll escort you to where you can have your catch up. You'll have to wait for my Lord to be done with him though," Somari intergected from her position next to Kerry, a frown forming on her features. "And also to remind you to bring that book back, you're a week past the due date dragon," said Somari, who despite appearing youthful, reminded Filia of an old cranky librarian in that moment, Filia half expected her to raise a withered old finger to her lips and harshly shush them for talking too loudly.
She gave a nervous laugh, "Oh I'm terribly sorry Miss Somari. I'll bring it back next time I promise. Things just got a bit hectic at home with the shop and moving house.."
"Don't give me that 'I've moved house and now I can't find it' excuse. Don't make me go get it myself dragon. I don't care where you've stashed it I will go through every draw and chest until I find it. If I come across something you don't want people seeing-"
"Oh shut up already! It's just a stupid pile of paper and glue. If it bothers you that much I'll grab it while I'm there," Kerry silenced the monsters tirade before turning to Filia. "Just tell me where it is," She asked irritably.
"I-it's downstairs in the office, the door just down the hall opposite the sitting room. I truly am sorry Miss Somari, and Miss Kerry," Filia bowed her head in apology to the sisters.
"Whatever," Kerry said flatly as she walked past Filia towards the door she came through, disappearing through the darkness without another word, the door shutting behind her.
"Huh," Somari sounded surprised as Filia turned back to her. "She must like you. Damned if I know why. Stupid dragons thinking they can just have whatever they want because it's 'for a good cause'. Righteous bastards, well? You coming or what?" She called irritably as she started walking down the hall. Filia hurridly fell in beside her, matching her pace.
"Miss Somari! I said I was sorry. It was an honest mistake and I take offense to that generalisation! We do not go around stealing things, even if it would be for the greater good!" Filia said angrily. Of all the people to make such heinous accusations! How dare this monster of all things try to insinuate that the dragon race are not much more than common theives!
Somari kept walking as she turned to Filia with a raised eyebrow, "Are you going to stand there and tell me that the dragon race has never taken, or tried to take something that didn't belong to them? By force or otherwise?"
"Of course no-!" Filia halted her words as she thought for a moment. The Supreme Elder coming to her mind, and his attempts to take the sword of light. "Well it's not the norm and most of us believe it isn't right! You shouldn't generalise everyone based on a few outliers in extenuating circumstances," she tried to sound confident.
Somari now raised both her eyebrows as they turned a corner, "Are you sure about that? I've come across a saying, 'You either die the Hero. Or you live long enough to see yourself become the Villain'. Given enough time I'm sure most people could come up with any reasonable excuse to commit many sinful acts. I've noticed at times that while our goals are different, some of our methods are very similar with that of the gods and their servants. So when does the end stop justifying the means?" She asked with a snide tone.
Filia could feel her temper rising with this spiteful monster, she hated to admit that she had a point. She stared at the ground in front of her, "The ends should never be used to justify the means," She muttered lowly.
"That's not life now is it? Maybe people should just stop lying to themselves that this is not how things work. Accept and embrace it Goldie, you'll be better off for it," she said with finality as they turned another corner.
Filia straightened her back, a steely look entering her eyes, "No. I wont accept that and I don't believe I ever will," she said stubbornly.
Somari smirked, "We shall see dragon. Well, here we are!" she said as they reached a door. Filia recognized this area as the room she and Val had stayed in, his room. "He's not in yet, so feel free to go inside and wait for him. I've got other things to do and I've had my evening meal now, so don't go wandering off too far," she said as she started walking away down the hall.
Filia seethed as she realised the monster had been intentionally getting a rise out of her to feed on her emotions. She opened the door and stomped inside, wishing she had bought her mace to vent her frustrations. As she walked in she left the door open behind her to let some light in. The room was unlit so she went to the vanity to find the lamp and ignited it. The room appeared to be untouched since her departure. The lack of dust on anything the only indication that anyone had been in here at all. She sat down on a nearby chair and resigned herself to waiting.

"Is Seyruun getting involved?" Zelas questioned the kneeling priest.
"That is hard to say. It would be out of character for Seyruun to not get involved, but their alliances with the Outer World are still being formed. The lands and their politics still new and foreign to them," Xellos offered in contemplation. "I believe we should assume that they will become a factor to deal with in the future".
"Noted. I'll leave you to sort out the details as usual Xellos". Zelas took a long drag of her cigarette. "In the meantime I think it would be best to let things simmer for a while. For now just keep an eye out for any new developments".
"Yes my Lord".
Zelas studied her subject carefully, "You've been very formal as of late Xellos. Are you troubled?" she enquired. She'd not heard the usual mirth in his voice for a while, nor had he been living up to his name of trickster priest. This would simply not do.
Xellos raised from his kneel, keeping his eyes lowered. "Not troubled my liege. But I will admit I've not been feeling myself as of late. I can assure you though my work has not suffered," Xellos defended. He'd not had the motivation to do much more than what he'd been ordered ever since...he mentally shook his head. Now was not the time to continue that line of thought.
"Hmmm. Perhaps your surprise will help with that," Zelas said with a smirk as she mentally sent a signal to her underling.
Xellos raised his eyes in question to his master, "surprise Mistre-?" Xellos froze mid sentence, his eyes widened in shock as he suddenly became aware of a presence in his private quarters.
The smirk on Zelas's face grew, "kindly refrain from destroying the island this time dear Xellos. You may go now," Zelas dismissed with a wave of her hand.
Xellos was gone in an instant.

Filia had begun nervously pacing the room, straining to hear any footsteps coming down the hall from the open door. Her hands fiddling with the bow on her tail for something to do.
She felt a familiar tingle on the back of her neck -BANG!-. She jumped with a scream as the door slammed itself shut. The lamp was extinguished just as quickly, plunging her into darkness, she heard a small click of what she assumes is the door being locked. She tried to swallow her heart back down from her throat, scanning the room frantically for any moving shadows in the darkness. "Xe-gulp-Xe-Xellos? Is that you?" she stammered, her mouth suddenly very very dry.
"Filia. It's been a while," his low voice seemed to come from all around her.
"Y-y-yes. I-I sup-pose it h-has been," Filia could feel sweat beginning to form on her brow. There was a long silence before she stumbled on. "I-I've actually moved not t-too long ago. Found a nice place just outside of town," she nervously tried to make conversation.
"Mmmm," he acknowledged, but offered nothing further.
She pressed on, "I was, actually surprised when you didn't show up during the move. It went along rather smoothly without any troublesome monsters spreading chaos," she chuckled softly, releasing her tail and grasping her hands together in front of her. "I've sort of, missed you I suppose," she said, a small smile gracing her face.
"I know," he replied as he let some of his power out, black tendrils forming and reaching from behind her, gently lifting the hair from the back of her neck. She stiffened at the contact, but kept her hands infront of her. "Y-you know?" she asked hesitantly.
More black tendrils came, brushing some stray hair out of her face, tracing down her cheek and onward. "I gave my word that I wouldn't eavesdrop on you. But I was still aware of the surroundings". There was a tingle as the tendril touched her lips. "I felt every touch, and..." the touch began to lower towards her neck, "I've tasted every dream. Have you any idea, how difficult it was to concentrate-" the tendril solidified into a hand wrapping around her throat, pulling her back into a solid chest as her left wrist was grabbed and forced behind her back, "with you emanating so many sinful emotions, I could practically hear you moaning my name," he all but growled through gritted teeth into her ear. His grip tightened on her throat, not enough to choke her, but enough to keep her silent. "Do you know how long I've sat here and waited, and waited for a call that I began to wonder would ever come?"
He could feel her pulse under his hand as he lowered his head, brushing his lips against her neck. "I almost failed too. Do you remember that night? I'm certain you know which one I'm referring to. I know you almost did it, almost called out for me".
Filia felt the blood rush to her face as she whimpered. That night she had dreams so vivid she thought them real at the time. It was a disappointing, almost painful shock when she awoke and found he wasn't there. Even her routinely cold shower hadn't managed to ease the discomfort she felt all day. To think that he knows about that...
"That night, I both admired and cursed your will power, your stubbornness. I wanted to steal you that night. And something tells me," she felt his nose at the base of her skull, smelling her hair and sending goosebumps down her legs and warmth in between them, "that you wouldn't have even attempted to resist me". He slowly removed his hand from her throat, letting his fingers trail down her collar bone. "Just as you're not," his fingers trailed further down between her breasts, "resisting me," his hand slipped beneath the fabric of her dress, "now". His fingers ghosted over to one of her nipples, giving it a firm squeeze that made her knees weak and her thighs clench as she moaned. "That's it! Do that again, but this time, say my name," he squeezed the nipple again as he gently bit into her neck.
"Aah Xelllosss!" She felt her legs give out beneath her, his hand releasing her wrist and quickly wrapping around her waist to catch her, holding her to him tightly, her arm still trapped behind her. He could feel his control beginning to slip as his power began to grow. His aura reaching out for hers. He felt hers push back as they danced together. He removed his hand from her breast, wrapping the arm around her in an embrace, letting go of her neck and resting his chin on her shoulder as he held her tightly.
"Filia. Filia Ul Copt, I need an answer. If this is not what you want, or if you need more time, then now is the time to tell me. But I need to know". Filia's heart almost ached for him. He almost sounds like he's pleading with her. In her heart she knows that if she says no, he would abide by her and let her go. He would let her walk out of this room and take however long she wanted.
But she already had her answer before she even walked through the door from her room.
"Yes." Time completely stopped. Everything had stopped. Even the worlds stopped existing. Surely she didn't say...
"What did you-?"
"I said yes Xellos. I accept you as my mate, and I yours".
Filia felt her stomach drop as her equilibrium shifted, she was suddenly face down on a bed. She could feel Xellos's weight on top of her, his face next to hers. "I'll ask that you trust me when I say just go with it. No matter what happens, just accept it and go with it. I will do all I can to make sure you are alright," his voice was different. More rough, more demonic. She bit back the whimper that sought to escape her, scrunching her eyes shut and nodding.
Xellos moved her long hair to the side, exposing her back. Her dress dipped low enough for him to see her scar. His eyes glowed with bloodlust for those that would dare harm his mate. 'Never again. Never again shall she be that helpless,' he vowed to himself as he laced his fingers through the hair on her scalp, gripping it and moving her face downward towards the bed, exposing the back of her neck. He leant down, hovering a breath away from her nape. His voice still rough and demonic, he asked one more time. "Are you sure?"
Her face was muffled into the bed, all she could do was nod.
Xellos felt his aura violently connect with hers as his teeth pierced the flesh of her nape. His demonic magic and her holy magic swirled together. Audibly cracking and sparking like lightning as they did, drowning out her scream. Their auras continued to dance around them in an angry storm as he withdrew his sharpened teeth from her neck, kissing and licking the blood from the glowing wound. It would still be a short while before his mark took its shape, solidifying their bond. Until then, he looked forward to consummating their binding.
