"Everyone!" Gomez called, "Family meeting time!" The Addames- Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Thing, and Grandmama- gathered in the parlor.
Wednesday scanned the room. "Where's Lurch?" she asked.
"That, my dear daughter, is an excellent question!" Gomez said, taking the cigar out of his mouth. "I called you all here because Lurch has something to show you! Lurch?"
The butler entered the room, carrying a cage with something inside that made up for his silence.
"Is it a new pet?" Pugsley asked excitedly.
Gomez cocked an eyebrow. "Perhaps,"
"Is it a boa constrictor?" Wednesday inquired.
"Also perhaps,"
As Lurch set the cage on a table, everyone leaned in for a look.
"It's a cat," Wednesday said, sounding somewhat disappointed.
"Not just any cat," Gomez said as Lurch opened the wired door. The cat walked out of his enclosure, a matted mess of black fur and lacking a left eye.
"Lurch found this little fellow while we were running errands a few days ago," Gomez explained. "Poor thing was alone and near death. Naturally, we envied it in such a dismal state, but we knew the creature deserved to live a full life, and what better way to do so than within a loving family?"
"He's so cute!" Pugsley reached out to pet the cat, who hissed in response.
Wednesday gave the smallest of smiles. "I like him already,"
"He has attitude," Morticia admired. Grandmama nodded in response.
"Can we play with him?" Pugsley eagerly asked his father.
"Of course!"
Picking up the cat, Wednesday and Pugsley began to carry the new pet away when he noticed Thing. Drawn to the moving object smaller than himself, the cat began to chase Thing, who scurried around as fast as his five fingers could carry him.
"Come on," Wednesday said to Pugsley, "Let's play 'Which of Your Nine Lives Are You Currently On?',"
"Gomez," Morticia said as she wrapped her arm around her husband's, "How wonderful of you to give this creature a home,"
"I'm not the one to thank," Gomez said as he clapped Lurch on the back, "Lurch gets the credit for finding this cat,"
"Thank you," Morticia said graciously. Lurch bowed in response.
"I think this feline will make a fine addition to the family," Morticia continued once the two of them were the only ones remaining in the parlor. "The children already love him dearly,"
Gomez wrapped his arms around his wife. "Not as much as I love you," he said, "Nine lives over and more,"
