"Knock knock!" Gomez said cheerfully as he entered the bedroom.
"Gomez dear," Morticia smiled as she set her knitting project down, "I thought you wouldn't be home for another two hours,"
"We reached a deal almost immediately, hence the meeting ended early. Not to mention I missed you," Gomez planted a kiss on his wife's temple. Then, his hand dropping to the large swell of her abdomen where he placed a second kiss, added "And the baby. Four hours away from you both felt like an eternity,"
"We kept busy," Morticia said, placing the onesie she was making on her nightstand. "I caught up on some knitting while singing some songs to the baby,"
Gomez lit up at the news. "I'm sure our baby will be musically inclined in no time," he said, "And will accompany Lurch when he plays his musical numbers. Tell me, what song did our little Addams Jr. learn today?"
"Rock-A-Bye Baby," Morticia said, "The dreariest of children's songs,"
"A wonderful choice,"
Morticia shifted uncomfortably. "I would have waited downstairs for your return, but I wasn't sure if I could stay up that late,"
Gomez wrapped his arms around Morticia as he crawled into bed. "No need to apologize. I know this condition has put you through a lot. I'm proud of you,"
"It has been a journey these last eight months and five days," Morticia looked at the clock, "As of nine o'clock this evening,"
Gomez kissed her neck. They had been together many years and were on various macabre adventures across the world. But now, after all they'd seen and done and haunted, they'd decided it was time to begin their next journey here at home by starting their own family.
"Cousin Itt stopped by briefly this evening," Morticia said. "He wanted to drop off another baby gift. Apparently, he found a new line of hairbrushes for infants he thinks the baby will enjoy,"
Gomez chuckled softly. "We'll add it to the nursery," he said as he caressed his wife's back. The poor thing looked exhausted, and he didn't want to deprive her of any more sleep. "But for now, let's get some rest,"
Gomez turned off the light as Morticia snuggled as close to him as she could get. Within minutes, he could hear her snoring softly beside him.
Parenthood. The word brought a fresh smile to Gomez's lips. This new title both excited and terrified, energized and exhausted him at the same time. He and Morticia had always placed family above everything else in their lives; and now, they would soon be bringing a new Addams into the world, one that was created by their love alone.
In this creaky old mansion, they would no longer be known as the Addams couple…they would now be known as the Addams family.
