Chapter 1
Cinderpelt laid down in the medicine den, licking her chest fur and looking out the entrance sadly "Is something bothering you?" Yellowfang grumbled "Well I love Fireheart more than he knows, but I can't tell him since i'm a medicine cat" Cinderpelt sighed, looking down at her paws sadly "I see, well I had your problem once" Yellowfang said, laying next to Cinderpelt "You did?" Cinderpelt asked Some cat was mates with Yellowfang? She questioned to herself "Yes, his name was Raggedpelt, or rather Raggedstar and we were pretty close, but he wasn't really the best mate but by the time I had become a medicine cat i'd been expecting his kits, Brokenstar was one of them" Yellowfang sighed "Wow! But that doesn't tell me what I should do" Cinderpelt sighed, looking back at her injured leg "Unlike Raggedstar, Fireheart is a good cat, and seeing how he saw Spottedleaf he seems to have a thing for medicine cats" Yellowfang said and Cinderpelt giggled at her comment "Well i'm very nervous, what if he doesn't like me?" Cinderpelt asked "It happens sometimes, and if you're nervous prepare yourself for all outcomes" Yellowfang said, lashing her tail across the floor of the medicine den "Well when will we be alone?" Cinderpelt mewed "Wait until he's got some sort of injury, warriors get them all the time, or maybe go approach him if you don't want to wait" Yellowfang suggested "Alright!" Cinderpelt squeaked looking out of the den "I think I'll go talk to him for a bit" she said, trotting out of the den and over to the big orange tom "Hi Cinderpelt!" Fireheart said happily "Hi Fireheart" Cinderpelt purred, staring into his shining green eyes "What have you been up to?" Fireheart asked "Not much, no big battles have been happening" Cinderpelt said, moving her tail onto Fireheart's back "Do you want to go on a walk?" Fireheart asked and Cinderpelt felt her heart jump into her throat and she nodded happily, walking out of the camp with him by her side "So how have you been doing?" Cinderpelt asked "Well I've been doing good, I'm happy for Sandstorm, she's mates with Dustpelt now, didn't you hear?" Fireheart said "Yeah, they seem happy together but poor Ferncloud, she was really fond of Dustpelt" Cinderpelt mewed "Well she'll find somebody, she's a kind cat" Fireheart purred "I miss Graystripe a lot" Fireheart sighed "He's happy in Riverclan, his kits seem to be doing well too, Mudfur told me all about it" Cinderpelt said, twining her tail around Fireheart's tail "That's nice" Fireheart purred and they reached Sunningrocks "This is where Graystripe met Silverstream so many moons ago" Fireheart sighed "Oh I remember, he was definitely not a Riverclan cat then" Cinderpelt giggled and Fireheart laughed "You're funny Cinderpelt" Firestar said and Cinderpelt pressed herself against his soft pelt "You always make me so happy" Cinderpelt purred wrapping her tail on Fireheart's leg and Fireheart put his head on hers "You make me happy too" Fireheart purred in response and Cinderpelt felt her heart lifting happily and she licked his cheek and Fireheart put his paw on Cinderpelt's chin and lifted her head up and Cinderpelt gulped anxiously remembering Yellowfang's words "Fireheart, I…" Cinderpelt muttered, looking down and she could see Fireheart's paws trembling "Is something wrong?" Cinderpelt asked holding her head high under his paw and Fireheart smiled at her "I'm so happy to have you" Fireheart said, his voice choked with emotion and Cinderpelt pressed her head onto his shoulder breathing in his warm scent happily lashing her tail on the warm rocks seeing the sunset in the sky, she moved her head around looking for any nearby cats, seeing none "I love you Fireheart" Cinderpelt squeaked and she pulled her head back and saw his ears prick upwards in shock and she looked into his eyes and shuffled closer to Fireheart nervously "You do?" Fireheart asked and Cinderpelt nodded rapidly and she felt her heart beating in her head "Oh Cinderpelt, I love you too" Fireheart purred, pressing himself onto her shoulder and twining his tail around Cinderpelt's. He really does love me! Maybe we'll even have kits one day. Cinderpelt thought licking Fireheart's cheek "We have to keep this secret though Fireheart, the medicine cat code doesn't let me have a mate" Cinderpelt mewed "Of course" Fireheart responded "I think we should go back to camp, Bluestar will start to worry" Cinderpelt said, standing up twitching her tail happily "Yeah, but I wish we could spend more time together" Fireheart mewed sadly "We'll have plenty of time, let's go now" Cinderpelt said, trotting back into camp happily and laying down in her nest "You seem happy" Yellowfang observed "Well I told Fireheart how I feel, and we're mates now!" Cinderpelt purred "Congratulations Cinderpelt" Yellowfang rasped, laying down on her side and Cinderpelt layed down and fell asleep but soon woke up in a dream "Starclan?" Cinderpelt asked and she saw a starry tortoiseshell she-cat walk up to her "Spottedleaf!" Cinderpelt gasped vaguely remembering the old medicine cat from when she was a young kit. "Hello Cinderpelt" Spottedleaf mewed, a grim tone in her voice "Is something wrong?" Cinderpelt asked, tilting her head to the side "Yes! The fact you're mates with Fireheart and also a medicine cat!" Spottedleaf hissed and Cinderpelt laughed "You really just came to me to get angry i'm mates with Fireheart" Cinderpelt giggled and Spottedleaf drew herself back, her embarrassment clear on her face "I'm sorry, I suppose emotion took me over" Spottedleaf sighed "Well we're mates and you need to move on Spottedleaf, you're dead and Fireheart is alive with me as a mate so keep your paws to yourself" Cinderpelt hissed, looking directly into Spottedleaf's amber eyes and she drew back "Alright Cinderpelt" Spottedleaf sighed walking back to the starry mist in the distance.
Chapter 2
Cinderpelt woke up and stretched out yawning, looking out to the starry sky so much has happened in the last moons she thought walking out of the medicine den and over to the leader's den where she saw Firestar sleeping on his moss "Hey, it's time" Cinderpelt whispered and Firestar stood up "Let's go then" Firestar purred and Cinderpelt walked out of the camp entrance with him by her side and she walked over to the Great Sycamore and sat down by the tree pressing herself onto Firestar and he purred happily "I've noticed you've been acting strange, is something wrong?" Cinderpelt asked "Well i've been seeing strange cats, they're clearly not alive but they keep appearing" Firestar sighed and Cinderpelt laid down "Well maybe go to the moonstone, starclan may have answers" Cinderpelt mewed "Alright, i'll do it sometime" Firestar purred and he laid down by Cinderpelt "And I have my own news" Cinderpelt purred excitedly "What is your news?" Firestar asked and Cinderpelt's whiskers twitched happily "I think I'm expecting kits!" Cinderpelt squeaked, wrapping her paws around Firestar's side and she saw his face light up with joy "I'm so happy Cinderpelt!" Firestar said and Cinderpelt pressed her cheek onto Firestar's side "They're going to be the best kits in Thunderclan" she purred "Well Starclan may give you answers to your ghost problems" Cinderpelt purred, licking Firestar's cheek tenderly "You're going to be a great mother Cinderpelt" Firestar said, and Cinderpelt looked up at the sky "I think we need to get back to camp now" Cinderpelt said "I think i'll go to the moonstone" Firestar said "First let's tell Graystripe" Cinderpelt mewed walking into camp with Firestar by her side over to the Thunderclan deputy "Hey Graystripe, me and Firestar are going to the moonstone you're in charge while we're gone" Cinderpelt mewed and Graystripe nodded and so Cinderpelt trotted over to Firestar "Let's go!" Firestar purred and Cinderpelt led him out of camp and as they walked soon they came over to the Thunderpath Cinderpelt shook nervously "Don't worry Cinderpelt, Tigerstar is dead there's nothing to worry about" Firestar reassured her, licking her cheek and Cinderpelt nodded, feeling a slight boost in confidence seeing an opening she dashed across the thunderpath and right after a large green monster zoomed past her "You did great!" Firestar exclaimed and Cinderpelt purred in response seeing him dash across the thunderpath "We're here now, let's hope Starclan can answer your problem" Cinderpelt said, walking into highstones with Firestar behind her she led him to the moonstone "You talk to starclan now" Cinderpelt mewed, putting her tail onto Firestar's back and laying down by him and after a while Firestar shot up "There's a fifth clan, we need to restore Skyclan" he said and Cinderpelt gasped "A fifth clan?!" she screeched and Firestar nodded "We must restore the lost clan, i'll need you on the journey since it's risky to have you expecting kits while i'll be away for moons, they may know they are yours, and I also want to see them when they are born" Firestar purred and Cinderpelt felt rising affection and worry "But who will heal the clan?" Cinderpelt asked "Maybe Dustpelt, not much can happen in a few moons especially in the newfound peace, you can tell him the basics" Firestar suggested and Cinderpelt nodded in agreement "Let's go back then" Cinderpelt purred, and soon she walked into camp seeing Sandstorm in the nursery by Dustpelt, watching Spiderkit and Shrewkit playing "They look so much like you" Sandstorm purred, pressing her muzzle on Dustpelt's cheek "Hey Dustpelt, me and Firestar need to go do something for a few moons, do you think you can take over the medicine den for a bit?" Cinderpelt asked "No way, Dustpelt still has his kits" Sandstorm hissed "Don't worry Sandstorm, it's not for long and you'll still be mates" Cinderpelt said "But I know nothing about healing" Dustpelt said "Well I can tell you the basics" Cinderpelt mewed "Fine" Dustpelt hissed "So if a cat gets a thorn in their paw pull it out, if the paw gets worse chew up yarrow into a poultice and put it over their paw, yarrow is for if cats eat deathberries, dock is for injuries it's thick deep green leaves, and thyme is for aches and pains, got it?" Cinderpelt said slowly and Dustpelt nodded "Alright, i'll go tell Firestar" Cinderpelt said, walking over to the leader's den "He agreed, we need the clan to know now" Cinderpelt said and Firestar smiled and jumped onto the highrock "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the highrock for a clan meeting" Firestar said and the clan went around the rock "I am going on a journey for a few moons along with Cinderpelt, Dustpelt will be taking over the medicine den for those few moons and Graystripe will lead you" Firestar announced "May Starclan light your path Firestar!" Shrewkit squeaked and Firestar nodded at the young kit, leaping down from the highrock "Let's go now Cinderpelt" Firestar purred and they walked out of camp
Chapter 3
In the Skyclan camp Cinderpelt saw Sharpclaw trying to boss the Skyclan cats around "He's acting as if he's leader already" Cinderpelt grumbled "Yeah, who knows what kind of leader he's be" Firestar muttered and suddenly Bouncekit dashed over to the two "Hi Cinderpelt!" Bouncekit squeaked "Hello Bouncekit" Cinderpelt purred "Are you and Firestar going to have kits?" Bouncekit asked "No, we're not" Cinderpelt lied "Well Clovertail told me you look like you are" Bouncekit said and Cinderpelt got up and walked over to Clovertail "Oh, hello Cinderpelt" Clovertail purred "I see you figured it out" Cinderpelt mewed "When you've already had kits you notice these things" Clovertail said "Well please try to not tell any cat, it's forbidden for medicine cats to have kits" Cinderpelt whispered and Clovertail nodded "I promise you Cinderpelt" Clovertail purred and Cinderpelt trotted off to a grassy patch in a nearby forest and she laid down by a field of flowers, licking her chest fur she saw how pretty the flowers are Maybe if I put the flowers in my fur i'll look really nice Cinderpelt thought, grabbing some pretty daisies and putting them around her ears and tail, then grabbing some small vines with flowers on them and wrapping them around her arms, then walking over to some red flowers and she put the petals into her fur happily, Cinderpelt walked over to a nearby stream I think these flowers look super pretty in my fur! Wait until Firestar sees Cinderpelt thought happily, standing up and walking out of the forest, following the rushing stream over to the Skyclan camp where she saw Firestar laying down on the Skyrock so Cinderpelt walked on the gorge paths and up to the rock where Firestar was sitting down "Hi Firestar" Cinderpelt purred and she faw Firestar gasp and stare at her as she approached closer "Do you like the flowers?" Cinderpelt asked and all she got in response was Firestar's shocked face "Do you not like them..?" Cinderpelt sighed and suddenly Firestar pulled her closer "I don't have the words, you look amazing" Firestar purred and Cinderpelt smiled, feeling her heart lift happily "I'm so glad you do" Cinderpelt mewed shyly, looking up into Firestar's shining eyes and pressing herself onto his chest "Well Echosong could use some training" Firestar mewed and Cinderpelt nodded "I'll go over to her now" Cinderpelt purred, walking into the medicine den "Hi Cinderpelt" Echosong purred and Cinderpelt sat down next to Echosong "Hello Echosong" Cinderpelt purred, licking her chest fur "Are you ready to start?" Cinderpelt asked and Echosong nodded "Now what herb helps get cats to sleep if they are having trouble sleeping?" Cinderpelt asked "Yarow?" Echosong questioned and Cinderpelt shook her head "Yarrow is for making cats vomit out poison, that would never get them to sleep, poppy seeds are what makes cats go to sleep" Cinderpelt mewed and Echosong nodded "Now what herb gives strength?" Cinderpelt asked "I'm not sure" Echosong said "It's Juniper berries" Cinderpelt replied "Oh ok" Echosong said sadly "Don't worry, when I was a medicine apprentice I couldn't tell between dock and thyme, but I learned" Cinderpelt purred, remembering the sweet scents of the thunderclan medicine den and sitting by Yellowfang and learning all the herbs "Now what herb is this?" Cinderpelt asked, pulling dock leaves towards the edge of the storage and Echosong put a paw on the leaves and sniffed them "Dock leaves" Echosong purred and Cinderpelt nodded "You seem to be good at identifying herbs when they're in front of you, maybe I can try to teach you how to identify cures without seeing them" Cinderpelt mewed "Can we go out to get herbs Cinderpelt?" Echosong asked "You know Echosong, I think you're experienced enough to get herbs on your own, you're good at seeing which ones they are" Cinderpelt purred and Echosong's face lit up with joy "Thank you so much Cinderpelt!" Echosong said, walking out of the medicine den with her head high and Cinderpelt trotted out, seeing Leafdapple come back with her patrol "I see you got some good birds" Cinderpelt purred "Yeah, we got good prey today, and no rats were sighted" Sharpclaw said and Cherrypaw ran to the fresh-kill pile laying down a fat cardinal, Cinderpelt sighed remembering her days as a warrior apprentice walking over to the sky's den and laying down by the small pool of water it'll be nice to get some rest Cinderpelt thought, pressing her paws onto the warm stones and slowly drifting off to sleep. Cinderpelt awoke to screeches and she gasped awake, seeing rats dashing into the camp and the warriors fighting and she dashed out "Echosong did you get burdock root?" Cinderpelt screeched and Echosong nodded. She ran around the side looking for Firestar seeing him fighting off a large rat she ran into the medicine den and grabbed burdock root "Echosong get some too!" Cinderpelt yowled and Echosong did as Cinderpelt asked, running out with the large roots in her jaws seeing the battle rage on, soon the rats ran off and Firestar sighed and Cinderpelt ran into the crowd with Echosong at her heels she saw a large rat dead on the ground "This one was the leader, they most likely won't be back" Firestar said and Cinderpelt walked around, giving burdock to the cats who were bitten the worst and Echosong giving burdock to cats less affected "I'm glad you're ok" Cinderpelt purred, pressing herself onto Firestar's chest "I'm glad you're ok too" Firestar mewed, licking Cinderpelt's ear "Every cat that has wounds go to the medicine den, Echosong you give them poultice for their wounds "Alright" Echosong said, walking into the medicine den helping support the limping cats "She's learning fast" Firestar purred and Cinderpelt nodded in agreement "She just needs to learn to remember cures, then she'll be all set to be Skyclan's full medicine cat" Cinderpelt replied and Firestar smiled warmly "I love you Cinderpelt" Firestar purred and Cinderpelt felt as if she was glowing inside, licking her mate's cheek she looked into the medicine den and Echosong was putting poultice onto a wound on Leafdapple's tail "Are sure you feel ok? You've been carrying our kits for quite some time" Firestar asked "I'm feeling ok, but i'm sure they're coming soon" Cinderpelt purred and Firestar licked her head and Echosong walked out of the medicine den "Everybody's doing fine now Cinderpelt" Echosong purred "Good job Echosong" Cinderpelt said, wrapping her tail around Firestar's side and Cinderpelt walked to the nursery to check on Clovertail and her kits "Hey Cinderpelt I know you're having kits but who's the father?" Clovertail asked Cinderpelt sighed "Can you keep a secret?" Cinderpelt asked and Clovertail nodded "Firestar is the father" Cinderpelt muttered "Oh I knew it!" Clovertail squeaked and Cinderpelt felt as if a weight was lifted off her back "Well it seems your kits are going to come very soon!" Clovertail mewed "Well do you think we'll be gone by the time they're born?" Cinderpelt asked "I doubt it, unless you leave in one or two sunrises" Clovertail said "Well what do you think will happen once they're born?" Cinderpelt asked "Well Echosong will take over the medicine den, and you'll either stay there to advise Echosong or you could move to the nursery" Clovertail said "I'll have to ask Echosong and Firestar what would be best" Cinderpelt said "Well go do it now!" Clovertail encouraged Cinderpelt and she nodded, walking into the medicine den "Echosong, can I tell you something in private?" Cinderpelt asked and Echosong walked over to the side with Cinderpelt by her. "Well I'm expecting kits and they're going to be here very soon, do you think you'll be able to handle the medicine den by yourself?" Cinderpelt asked "Maybe stay in the medicine den for a moon to tell me any last things and then move to the nursery" Echosong suggested "That's a great idea! I'll just have to ask Firestar" Cinderpelt purred, walking out and over to Firestar who was eating a small robin from the fresh kill pile "Hey Firestar, since our kits are close maybe for a moon I could stay in the medicine den and then after that I can move to the nursery, but I want to know what you think" Cinderpelt mewed "That's a great idea!" Firestar purred "Alright then" Cinderpelt said, limping into the medicine den into the smaller den laying down in her moss Cinderpelt smiled, licking her belly in slick strokes these kits will be amazing, I know it
Chapter 4
Cinderpelt woke up in the medicine den seeing her two small kits at her belly Squirrelkit and Leafkit are so sweet, i'm so glad to have them Cinderpelt thought happily seeing Squirrelkit squeal and screech "So loud aren't you" Cinderpelt giggled seeing Clovertail walk up to her "Your little ones are so precious, they'll grow up to be good strong cats" Clovertail purred "Thank you very much Clovertail" Cinderpelt responded, seeing Squirrelkit wobble up into an awkward standing position "You'll get it soon Squirrelkit" Cinderpelt purred and Leafkit gave a soft squeak, scrambling to Cinderpelt's paw "Good job Leafkit" Clovertail said, nosing the kit onto Cinderpelt's paw "I heard squeaking" Firestar purred, walking into the medicine den "Yes you did, Squirrelkit is trying to speak and stand, she hasn't got it yet but she'll get it someday" Cinderpelt said, helping Squirrelkit up with her paw "Well Leafkit is getting it a bit better" Firestar said, laying down and Cinderpelt saw Leafkit struggle up and she stumbled to Firestar's paws "I see the kits are doing well" Echosong purred, walking over to Cinderpelt and Firestar and Squirrelkit gave a loud shriek of protest as Cinderpelt moved Squirrelkit to her belly "I think Squirrelkit wants to explore" Echosong giggled "She still needs to learn to stand properly though" Firestar said, licking Leafkit's head "Well I think I know cures now" Echosong said "So i'll review to see how much you've learned, what is the cure for rat bites?" Cinderpelt asked "Burdock root" Echosong said confidently "Yes Echosong, what is the cure for a cat eating deathberries or crow-food?" Cinderpelt said "Yarrow" Echosong purred and Cinderpelt nodded "And what do you give to cats who have trouble sleeping?" Cinderpelt asked "You give them poppy seeds" Echosong purred "You're correct Echosong! You're ready to be the full medicine cat" Cinderpelt squeaked and Echosong purred happily "And Firestar I think I got my first sign today!" Echosong purred "Well what was the sign about?" Firestar asked "I saw a dappled leaf, it fell right on my head, I think it means Leafdapple should be leader" Echosong said "At least starclan was clear with this sign" Cinderpelt said, lashing her tail across the soft moss "Should I tell Leafdapple?" Echosong asked and Cinderpelt nodded "Bring her into the medicine den" Firestar purred and Echosong walked out, and then she came back with Leafdapple by her side "So why have you brought me here?" Leafdapple asked, sitting down on a bed of soft moss "I have gotten a sign and you are to be the leader of Skyclan" Echosong said and Leafdapple gasped in shock "B-but I have no idea on how to be a leader!" Leafdapple said, lashing her tail and Squirrelkit tried to stumble towards Leafdapple's paw "Starclan has said you must, Firestar can help you learn how to be a leader" Echosong said, and Squirrelkit swatted at Leafdapple's paw "Yes I can" Firestar purred, picking up Squirrelkit and putting her by Cinderpelt "Oh, alright then" Leafdapple said, walking out of the medicine den with Firestar "Squirrelkit has enough energy to match any full grown warrior" Echosong mewed, pressing her nose onto Squirrelkit's head and the small ginger kit swiped at Echosong's muzzle "A little warrior already I see" Cinderpelt purred, seeing Squirrelkit lashing her tail on the soft moss bedding and Leafkit gave a soft mew, stumbling up and grabbing onto Cinderpelt's belly "I don't think you're big enough to walk yet Leafkit" Cinderpelt purred and Leafkit gave a soft squeak of protest "Well look at this rebel" Echosong said, patting Leafkit on the head and Squirrelkit grabbed onto Leafkit's tail "What funny kits, i'll be sad to see them go" Echosong giggled, helping Squirrelkit onto her paws "Who do you think Leafdapple will choose for deputy?" Cinderpelt asked, looking up at Echosong "I think maybe Sharpclaw, he's already acting like leader" Cinderpelt said, licking her chest fur "Well I think Patchfoot would be a good choice, he's a responsible warrior" Cinderpelt said "Well I think he may be a good choice, and speaking of Patchfoot, he seems to be spending a lot of time with Clovertail" Echosong said, laying down on the stone floor of the medicine den "Yeah he seems to really like her" Cinderpelt said "Well they aren't mates yet and if they become mates they'll probably wait before having kits, she's already got her current kits" Echosong said, licking Leafkit's head "Tangle's been grumpy lately" Echosong said "Well you'll learn that with elders that isn't very uncommon" Cinderpelt purred. After a long time of talking Cinderpelt saw Firestar walk back into the medicine den with Leafdapple "I think i'm ready now" Leafdapple said, lashing her tail nervously "Well we need to go to the moonstone, but I don't think Cinderpelt is fit to travel with Squirrelkit and Leafkit being so small and still stuck to her belly, so I can try to get to the moonstone with you and Echosong, she'll need to learn her way there" Firestar said "Maybe I can go to the nursery early, Clovertail is good company and so is Petalnose" Cinderpelt suggested "Well only for tonight since after Leafdapple becomes leader we will leave" Firestar said "Alright then" Cinderpelt purred, standing up and picking up Squirrelkit in her jaws and Firestar picked up Leafkit and they walked to the nursery and Cinderpelt laid down on a soft moss nest and Squirrelkit squeaked, slowly opening her green eyes "Squirrelkit's opened her eyes!"
