Do You See Me?
Songfic with Michelle Branch's "Everywhere"

Turn it inside out so I can see
The part of you that's drifting over me

Harry tossed and turned in his bed, muttering, "No! No! Please, stop..." His nightmare was one of the usual ones he had, about the past events of the Tri-Wizard Tournament and the killing of his fellow classmate, Cedirc Diggory. As much as he wouldn't admit it, it had affected him greatly. Of course, being the person that he was, he refused to let anyone know. What if he told Sirius, and Sirius came to visit him to comfort him? And then Sirius got caught by the Ministry and got the Dementor's Kiss? Harry would never forgive himself, for it would have been his fault.

And when I wake, you're never there
And when I sleep, you're everywhere
You're everywhere

Harry's cries into the night only increased in volume as the details of the dream became more vivid. Before he knew it, he was yelling at the top of his lungs, "NO! STOP!" and thrashing about. He awoke suddenly, and instantly regretted crying out, for Uncle Vernon's angry footsteps could be heard all over the house. His door bust open to reveal a purple-faced Vermon shouting, "BOY, KEEP IT DOWN! ONE MORE SCREAM THAT WAKES ME UP AND I'LL THROW YOU OUT!" With that, he stomped flat-footed out of the room, leaving Harry back to his thoughts.

'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see

Harry wiped a tear that fell from his haunted green eye. He couldn't help it if nightmares were the only things he knew of at night these days. He didn't ask for Voldemort to rise again and use his blood to complete the task...he didn't ask for Wormtail to follow Voldemort's orders and kill Cedric...Harry could now hear Vernon raving to Petunia about "that boy in there, doesn't know how well we treat him". He couldn't hear her say anything back to him, but he could imagine her horse-like head nodding in agreement. Harry just wished, for one time in his so far miserable life, he could have parents that cared about him.

You're everything I know
that makes me believe
I'm not alone

Harry strained his memory to try and imagine his parents. The only thing he could conjure was his parents' last words before death, there screaming and pleas, and that didn't comfort him very much. But...if he looked a little further...he saw his father's jet black hair and glasses, yelling, "He'll be Quidditch Captain someday! Best player there is!" He could hear the laughter and joy in his voice.

You always light my way
No matter where I go
I always feel you so

Then he remembered his mother's fiery red hair and sparkling emerald eyes, holding him close. "That may be so, but he's not getting on a broom anytime soon! He's only ten months!" Even though she was scolding him, her eyes were alight with happiness and she couldn't help but smile kindly. She cradled him close, saying softly, "You'll always be with me, where ever I am. Remember that."

'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see
You're everything I know
that makes me believe
I'm not alone

A sigh escaped Harry's lips as he struggled not to cry. Fifteen year olds did not cry, especially over something they could hardly remember. As he laid his head back on his pillows, he didn't realize it, but James and Lily Potter were watching over him. While he drifted to sleep, they assured him everything would be all right and that they were always with him; watching him and keeping him safe. Harry might not have heard it, but he felt it. The room was no longer chilly and dreary, it was warm and comforting. With the words of reassurance, he fell asleep.

You're in everyone I see
So tell me
Do you see me?
