Note: This short story takes place about three days after "Fungus Amongus" and is told entirely from Darkwing Duck's first person viewpoint. Since Darkwing Duck, Launchpad McQuack and Morgana McCawber are all copyrighted by Disney, I'm writing this story with absolutely NO profit motive.

"Gee, DW, you've been looking somewhat distracted lately, DW. I mean, you haven't been too distracted to do your duty, but you HAVE been looking JUST distracted enough for me to be a bit worried." my faithful sidekick, Launchpad McQuack, asked in an understandably concerned tone.

"Awww, LP, it's just that I can't believe how I let THAT WOMAN play me for a sap. I mean, I've been fighting crime for over fifteen years and I SHOULD be experienced enough to spot a phony like that a mile away, but there was just something about HER that just left me unable to think straight that night. What makes it worse is the fact that she got away." I answered in a vocal tone that implied that, while I DID geniunely appreciate the concern, it was still a very touchy subject for me.

"Don't worry, DW. You KNOW she's a criminal NOW and we BOTH know she is a soceress, so we're less likely to get caught off-guard by her the next time around; assuming, of course, she ever tries a caper in Saint Canard again." Launchpad said reassuringly as he gently placed his right arm on my left shoulder.

"I suppose you're right, Launchpad. If she DOES appear in my city again, I'm not going to fall prey to her charms as easily as it did last time." I replied in a firm voice.

However, regardless of how firm my voice was, I couldn't say the same for my heart. The truth was, even though I've had three nights to think about it, I STILL have it pretty bad for Morgana McCawber. No matter how hard I tried, I simply couldn't get that eerily beautiful and intelligent woman out of my head OR my heart. Though I can only admit it to myself, Morgana's image haunted my mind and heart and I DON'T mean in the manner of me being obsessed with revenge on her for making a chump out of me.

In spite of my outward denials, the truth was, I fell so hard for her that, even AFTER I found out she's a criminal, it took all of my willpower to even MENTION arresting her and somehow, even KNOWING she is a criminal, I still suspect that she DOES have a seed of goodness within her waiting to get out. All it would need would be the right encouragement.

In my mind and heart, it was settled; somehow I WOULD find a way to reform Morgana McCawber. I didn't care HOW HARD it would be or HOW LONG it would take; I WOULD find a way to reform her. Then, and ONLY then, could I start to work on showing her what was inside my haunted heart.

In the meantime, however, I still have a job to do; a city to protect. I can't turn my back on my duty to the innocent citizenry of Saint Canard. With that, I got up and said "Come on, Launchpad. We have evildoers to thwart." as we both headed for the Ratcatcher and started our nightly rounds.
