*Lilac Kisses* br
By Vered Arnon
p
A gentle breeze carried the scent of flowers into the
parlor. Jack sat on the couch reading a book. His parents
weren't home. His sister sat on the window seat with a boy
named Kevin. p
Periodically, Jack raised his eyes from his book, and
invariably met Kevin's gaze. Jack smiled to himself when he
looked back down at his book. His sister's boyfriend wasn't
paying very much attention to her. p
His sister chattered aimlessly, her voice blending into the
surroundings just like the scent of the flowers. Then she
was silent. Jack looked up to watch her gaze at Kevin.
Apparently it was Kevin's turn to speak. p
Kevin smiled at Jack. "Would you like to come see my
bicycle?" he asked. He stood up without looking at his
girlfriend. p
Jack set his book down carefully on the coffee table, then
followed the older boy outside. The sun shone down
cheerfully. Kevin's bicycle was leaning against the garden
gate, but he made no move to show it to Jack. Instead, he
squinted in the sunlight and stood with his hands in his
pockets. Jack tucked a stray lock of hair behind his ear
and waited patiently. p
"You look like a girl," Kevin told him. p
"You look like a boy," Jack replied. p
Kevin reached out awkwardly and touched Jack's face.
"You're pretty," he said, stroking his fingertips along the
boy's bony jaw. "You're prettier than your sister." p
Jack didn't reply. The warm sun on his face made him feel
languid and tired. He studied Kevin with a feigned mild
interest, taking in the details of the freckles on his nose
and the missing button of his pale yellow shirt. p
Kevin leaned forward slowly and pressed his lips against
Jack's. Jack responded by tilting his face up and opening
his mouth slightly. Kevin exhaled sharply. His mouth was
clumsy and wet. He drew back after a short moment. Jack
watched and waited. p
"I want to do it proper-like," Kevin told him haltingly.
His blue eyes sparkled nervously. p
Jack shrugged his shoulders. He stepped closer to Kevin and
lifted his face, half-closing his eyes in anticipation.
Kevin lowered his head, his warm mouth eagerly claiming
Jack's soft lips again. Jack sucked delicately, sliding the
tip of his tongue against the other boy's, tasting the
smooth thickness of his saliva and the heat of his breath. p
Groaning, Kevin cupped the back of Jack's head, his fingers
gently massaging Jack's neck as he drew his mouth closer.
His other hand slid down to Jack's waist, pulling the
slender body close as well. p
In response, Jack arched his hips up, grinding them subtly.
He felt Kevin's body grow hard, and the heat increase
between them. Jack continued the subtle grinding,
increasing his pace slightly. He was delighted to feel
Kevin's body grow increasingly frantic as his kiss became
more desperate and forceful. p
Suddenly Kevin gasped and whimpered softly. He pulled away,
and as he turned around, Jack observed a wet stain on his
trousers. p
"I need to go home," Kevin mumbled, climbing onto his
bicycle and quickly riding down the street. p
Jack sighed softly and smiled. The scent of flowers hung
heavily in the air. He walked back through the garden,
disturbing the bumble bees as they hovered around the lilac
bushes. p
His sister was still sitting on the window seat when Jack
returned to the parlor. p
"Did he kiss you?" she asked. p
"Yes," he informed her. He picked up his book and sat down
on the couch. p
"Did he say anything?" she inquired. p
"He said I'm prettier than you," Jack told her, without
looking up from his book. p
"Well, you certainly are!" she exclaimed cheerfully. p
Jack didn't respond. p
"Do you like it when boys kiss you?" his sister asked. p
Jack looked up and shrugged. "I don't mind," he told her.
Lowering his head again, he resumed his reading.
