A Cynic's Love Poem
I thought I'd write a poem
All about my perfect man
He puts the dreaming in my day
(And the 'charl' into 'atan')
Now I know I'm not a poet
But I had a little time
(So you thought you'd let us know it)
When I wrote this little rhyme
He's handsome as a Greek God
(And I'll bet you think it's Fate)
With a mind that's deep as oceans
(And a soul at going rate)
Well maybe I'm just crazy
(Or at least that's how it seems)
But I think I've truly found
The soulmate of my dreams
He's tall (but aren't they all, dear?)
And with a gorgeous grin
That just makes my heart flip over
(Or perhaps that's just the gin)
Those green eyes are so dazzling
(His overdraft more so)
And he's just so independent
(That's because he was disowned.)
His voice is melted chocolate
(Just too good to be real)
And his touch is burning silk
(Or so you've read in Danielle Steele)
His body's like a stripper's
(Bet that ain't just happenstance)
And his hair is white as light
(Could that be bleach by any chance?))
He's charming, sweet and witty
(A smirk-a-minute guy)
And I really think I'm falling...
(For a con-man with a tie.)
He's oh-so entertaining
(With an ego all his own)
But the poor man's clearly suffered
(He asked you for a loan)
He tells me how he loves me
(Or at least, your Visa cards)
And he's a true romantic
(You're not making it too hard!)
He says he has to leave soon
(Immigration's on his scent)
But he's given me his address
(And the money that you lent?)
He's has my heart and soul now
(And I bet he's got your PIN)
I'll never be the same again
(Can't say the same for him)
I sit and stare and dream on
(While his bills stop being red)
And I'll leave my perfect man
(Where he belongs, dear - in your head!)
