At the Kitchen Table

I do not own these characters. Drat….

Mid Morning Tea

A Card Captor Sakura Fanfic by The Nebula's Daughter

"Tell me Sakura, when did we get so alone?"

"What do you mean Eriol? We're not alone. There's you and me and Kero-chan and Yue and Ruby Moon and…"

"You know perfectly well what I mean, oh thou heir-of-mine."

"…I don't know."

"Was it when my Tomoyo died? Or maybe…"

"Please stop, it's not good for you to be so morbid."

…….

"…I miss her."

"I miss her too."

"She was the only person who was ever always two steps ahead of me. She could match me lie for lie and truth for truth. I loved our little battles."

"You loved her. The way I never could."

"I loved her, yes, but so did you."

"Not like she needed. She was my sister."

"…Just listen to me! Acting as if you've never lost anyone! You've lost more people then I have!"

"Only because I had more to lose."

"…When did you get so perceptive?"

"I always was. You just never noticed."

"I would have noticed."

"Eriol-Kun, my brother was shocked when he realized how much I knew. You didn't know me as well as you liked to think you did."

"But…But…"

"I've always felt the way things fit together. It's a sense that's gotten stronger as magic grows."

"Do we fit?"

"We?"

"Us. You and me and the guardians."

"…Yes."

"But there is something missing."

"More like someone. Several someones. Haven't we had this conversation before?"

"Probably."

"Seems like we've talked about everything at least once."

"Being two hundred years old will do that to you."

"…I miss him."

"I know."

"It's been such a long time without him."

"He was good for you, even if Touya never admitted it."

"Heh. He never did, did he?"

"No."

"Big Brother… Remember the time he got Taichi to loan him his Dobermans?"

"Why do we always talk about the past?"

"You don't remember, do you?"

"…No. But the question still stands."

"I suppose it's because there's a lot of past to talk about."

"There's a lot of the future too. We never talk about that."

……..

"I'm worried about Yue."

"What is it this time?"

"Oh, the usual, taciturn, withdrawn…"

"Sakura, he's always like that."

"Worse then usual. And he'll stare off into space and whisper my brother's name, and sometimes I just know he's been crying, and he's quit calling me Sakura and is back to calling me Mistress…"

"Go on."

"And it's frustrating and he never tells me anything so I don't know what's wrong."

"He did take Touya's death very hard."

"I know! But I don't know if this is that or… something else."

"Well! I certainly don't envy you! At least when my pair have a problem they let me know. Loudly. Very loudly. Often very early in the morning. Hmmm… On second thought maybe I do envy you."

"Awww…. Poor Eriol…."

"Oh , hush up."

"…Sigh…"

"I'd best be going. Nakaru-Kun has had plenty of time to get Suppi-Kun drunk by now. If I hurry I should be able to catch the show."

"I'll see you tomorrow then. Tell Nakaru-Chan and Suppi-Chan I said hello."

"I will. Tell Kerberos and Yue I send my regards."

"I will. Till tomorrow."

"Till tomorrow."

Author's note: Hmmm… Methinks I have some explaining to do. I wrote this assuming it takes place several hundred years after the Manga. I also sort of conjectured that Sakura and Eriol, like Clow have very long life spans. Hence this. I like the images it conjures up for me.

As you bothered to read this surely you can comfort a pretty girl by giving her feedback? Please?
