firebolt

A/N: My second fan fic ever! *does a happy dance* Woohoo, go me! Anyways, read it, review it if you want. Thanks!

Disclaimer: I don't own the context of the poem. J.K. Rowling does. As does WB. Just so you know.

A Bolt of Fire
The ground was hard beneath my feet.
My legs ached to let go, to defy gravity.
I jumped:
I soared.
Like lightning, I streaked through the sky,
Invisible.
I skimmed the surface of life,
Tearing through the tissue-thin boundary
Between excitement and bliss.
My blood pounded, I could hear it in my ears.
All was silent but the steady beat
Of my internal drum.
Beating, beating:
Louder, stronger, faster!
The air was cold, my breathing was sharp;
With each stinging breath I grew stronger.
I was ecstatic:
Happiness filled my veins.
It was like a sugar rush gone extreme.
And I was beautiful:
Invisible wings beat in time with my pounding heart.
My eyes were as wide as the sea,
Sharp as diamonds,
And with them I could not only see:
I could feel.
I felt a presence in the air,
Something glowing, shimmering,
Right in my path.
I could not reach it with my hands;
I had to reach it with my heart.
I gathered my last remaining energy
And funneled it towards this glowing orb.
It was beautiful.
I could see myself with it,
Holding it in my hand.
And beauty flowed through my body.
It was magnificent,
Warm and soft and gentle,
Like a kitten's tongue.
I reached for it --
I had it!
I had finally captured my long sought after joy.
I was glorious!
