Tristan walked slowly into Luke's, glancing around looking for Rory. He was kind of confused, because he had already spent thirty minutes in his car, wondering why the diner that Rory told him to meet her at was labeled Hardware. He went up to the counter, and saw a man, dressed in a blue and white plaid shirt staring at him, with a mean look on his face. Tristan smiled at him, trying to be nice, but this guy would not be won over.
Luke looked at him for a little while longer, and finally spoke. "Who are you?" He asked, knowing just from the way he looked that he was not from Stars Hollow.
"Tristan DuGrey, Sir." Tristan raised up his hand to Luke, waiting for him to shake it. Luke just stared down at his hand, and Tristan realized that he wasn't going to get anywhere with this guy. "Could you happen to tell me if Rory Gilmore stopped in here before?"
"Why? What do you want with Rory? Are you dating? Do you want to date her? You'd better not hurt her, if you hurt her I'll get this whole crazy town after you."
Tristan just sat there, shocked at what he was hearing. This guy must care a great deal for Rory. "No, Sir, she told me to meet her here at six. I'm a little late, so I was wondering if she came and left."
Luke scowled at him. "Can the Sir, Kristen. I don't like suck-ups. No, she wasn't here yet, and when she is here, I'll be watching you two."
"Um..that's Tristan. Can I get a cup of coffee, please?" Tristan tried to be as nice as possible to this man, but it was becoming hard.
Tristan heard the door open, and looked behind him. He saw Rory and her Mother walk through the door. He sighed with relief that he didn't have to be alone with the mean guy behind the counter anymore.
Rory walked up to him, and Lorelai walked to the counter to beg Luke for coffee. "Hey, Tristan. I hope you haven't been waiting long, but my Mom called and told me to wait for her to come and get coffee."
Tristan smiled. "Uh, no, I haven't been waiting too long." He leaned over to whisper to her. "Is he always like that?" He asked, assuming that she knew what he meant.
"Oh, yeah, but he's a big softy inside." She smiled at him, then shifted her head towards Luke. "Aren't you, Luke?"
Luke smiled at her, and Tristan was surprised that he could even curve his mouth that much. He didn't say anything, but Tristan assumed that Luke was a big softy...for her, at least.
Lorelai looked over and noticed that Rory was talking to a gorgeous blonde boy, and hadn't even managed to tell her that said boy was there. "Rory?"
Rory looked over at her Mother, who was now holding a full cup of coffee safely in her arms. "Mom?"
"Can I steal you for a second?" She looked over at Tristan. "Can I steal her for a second? Good!" She pulled Rory over to the other side of the counter. "Rory? Who is that boy?"
Rory looked at her Mother confused. Why was she asking about Tristan? "That's Tristan, Mom. Why? Are you turning into Luke?"
"The one who was mean to you and almost beat up Dean? He's cute! You never told me he was cute! Why didn't you tell me he was cute?" Lorelai pryed.
"I didn't think it was important that the guy who was making my life miserable was cute." Rory said, crossing her arms in front of her. "Now let's go back to the table, and you can stare at him some more, ok?"
"Fine, fine." She sighed. "It's too bad he's too young for me. You know, YOU can still date him..he's not too young for you." Lorelai said teasingly.
"Never, Mom, NEVER!"
