Imaginary Friend

Imaginary Friend

This toy, I remember.

Had a life before, I know.

His eyes sparkling embers,

Before my imagination ran low.

He somehow greeted me after school,

How a toy could I don't know.

I used to think him Cool,

Before my interest in him ran low.

With him I shared Happiness,

But not homework, that was his to do.

But when I learned discipline and kindness,

I guess I said Adieu…

With him I shared philosophy,

Although with his I hardly agreed.

Although my views were imaginary,

After he's gone, I never said sorry.

Before his absence

We were each other's only friends.

I never missed his absence,

When with others I made Amends.

Now at this lifeless toy I stare,

What would I do to bring him back?

As I run my hand through my hair,

I realize he might never come back.

My imagination,

Has run too low to ever refuel.

And to those who are reading this creation,

May you never bid your imaginary friend Adieu.

I regret for ever doing so.
