Musings

Sometimes I envy him

My brother

He who's soul is so open and bright

While mine is cluttered and dim.

Sometimes I envy him

My brother

He who walks in the light

While I lurk in the shadows

Sometimes I envy him

My brother

He who make makes friends so easily

While I do the same with foes

Sometimes I envy him

My brother

Who walks that path of ignorance?

While my knowledge leads me to destruction

This poem was written from the view of Raistlen. Raistlen and his twin Carmon are almost exact opposites. While Raistlen is weak and frail, Carmon is strong. While Raistlen is incredibly smart, Carmon is of average intelligence. Raistlen has a strong desire for magic and that is all, he is very cynical and sarcastic, his wit is incredibly sharp. Raistlen constantly scorns his brother and treats him like a pet that amuses him vaguely. At one point Raistlen provokes one of Carmon's friends into threatening him and Carmon rushes to his twin's defense while Raistlen looks on with a haughty amusement. One of His most memorable quotes is when he is talking to a member a the group he is with, Tanis Half-Elvin, is "Hope is a denial of reality' carat dangled in front of a daft horse to keep it plodding along in vain." Raistlen later turns evil, and challenges the dark Queen, the goddess of evil. He wins and the world starts to degrade and die. Carmon, ever a faithful lackey of his twin, uses the time traveling device to stop him from becoming a god by telling him what will come if he becomes a god. The place were I got that his knowledge will lead him to destruction is when he tells Carmon not to follow him down the path of darkness because it would only destroy them both. Raistlen Later becomes the most powerful Arch magus in the world of Krynn
