Everyone stared in shock and dispair at the fallen body of
their beloved friend and savior, Buffy. It was too surreal.
It couldn't be happening. No one was supposed to die, and, least
of all, her.
Willow clung to Tara, tears rolling unchecked down her face. She
was so distraught she could hardly stand on her own. Tara was the
only thing that kept her form collapsing to the ground.
"No, no, no," she kept whispering as she stared at the broken body
of her best friend.
Xander stood still in complete and utter shock as he held Anya.
He was too shocked to cry or do much of anything else but hold
his injured fiancee. It would seem that he was in a state of
catatonia.
Giles looked at Buffy as if he had just lost his one and only
daughter, which in a sense, he had. The Watcher in him knew
this was going to happen, but the other side, the side that loved
Buffy as his own, couldn't believe, wouldn't believe.
Spike looked as if he lost the one true love in his life, or rather,
unlife, and, in fact, did. The big bad vampire inside him was not
present. Spike's human side, William, was collapsed to his knees,
sobbing. It was a side of him he never let anyone see. But now...
now, he could care less if the Scoobies saw him this way or not.
His mind kept replaying the sight of her falling from the sky onto
the hard bricks with an unbearable thud. He failed, so he thought.
I failed her. he continued to say over and over in his head.
Slowly, without any regard to the impending sunlight, Spike made
his way to Buffy. He brushed back an errant strand of hair away
from her closed eyes. He laid a gentle loving kiss on her forehead.
"I love you," he whispered into her unhearing ear and laid his head
down next to hers. He closed his eyes and tried to remember all the
good times, no that there were many, he had with her. He didn't even
flinch as the sun began to make him sizzle.
he thought.
But before he could ignite into flames, he felt someone pull him away
from Buffy and out of the sun. He growled and turned to face the person
who ripped him away from his love.
"Dawn?" he asked quietly.
"Spike. What are doing?" she asked, tears rolling down her face.
"Doing you a favor."
She shook her head. "No. You can't."
"Why not? I'm dead now anyway."
"Because I need you, Spike. I don't want to lose you too. I don't
want to lose a sister and a man whose like a brother all in one night.
Please. You've got to try to live. Please. I love you, Spike."
Spike's tears came even harder as he hugged Dawn close. Together they
both cried and together, they both vowed to try. To live.
