I looked out my bedroom window at the ruins of what was once a beautiful city. I felt my heart begin pounding in my chest, and my hands curled into fists of rage. I had to look away; I couldn't take it anymore.

The Androids. The horrible, vile, disgusting hunks of scrap metal that had turned a once thriving city into a barren wasteland. They had destroyed everything in their path, and were looking for more. Looking for more innocent lives to crush in their hands with grins on their faces. I couldn't fathom why it was they enjoyed doing that.

*But what can I do?* I asked myself. I rested my hands on the windowsill and breathed in the outside air, exhaling deeply. These Androids were no match for myself, I was only thirteen. But I can't just let more people die!

"Why?" I asked myself, turning away from the window and looking down at the floor. My hands curled up again, forming tighter fists than before. Tears formed in my eyes, and I tried my best to fight them, but they cascaded down my face anyway.

"Why are they doing this?" I asked nobody in particular. I watched as one of my tears fell to the hard wood floor beneath me and landed with a tiny splash. "It's not right!" I jammed my fists into my eyes to keep me from crying any more, but it was too late.

"Owaranai," I whispered hoarsely. "It doesn't end..."

"Trunks?" my mother's voice came at my door. "May I come in?"

I wiped my eyes with the back of my hand. "Hai, mama," I replied.

She walked inside my room and shut the door behind her. "Trunks, you've been crying," she said softly. "What's wrong?"

I couldn't hold it in anymore. I ran to her and threw my arms around her and cried the lost child that I am. "Mama, why?" I asked her between sobs. "Why are they doing this to us? To ME?!"

"Shh, Trunks," Mama said soothingly, running her fingers through my lavendar hair. "I don't know why, Trunks. I don't have the answer to everything. But we're strong, right? We'll make it together, I promise you." She rocked me back and forth and whispered over and over, "I promise", until I stopped sniffling.

"Mama?" I asked.

"Hai?" She smiled down at me, and for the first time in my life, she seemed so worn-out and restless.

"If my father were alive today... do you think he would kill them? The Androids?"

She smiled. "Oh, Trunks, I don't know about that," she replied. "But he would certainly try, you know that." I rested my head on her shoulder and closed my eyes.

"Aishiteru," Mama whispered to me. "We'll make it together. We can revolutionize the world together..."
