I Don't Care What You Say...I've Got Rights

(Short Story)

"Tap, Tap, Tap," Zim tapped his pencil on his desk, as he stared at the clock, waiting for school to end.

Suddenly, Zim hears a commotion coming from the other side of the classroom. Immediately he prepares himself for battle. Then,he realizes the attack is not on him, but on Old Kid. "No reading THAT stuff in THIS classroom" hissed Ms. Bitters. She grabbed the strange looking book from Old Kid and tosses it into the nearest wastebasket. The bell rang and the kids stampeded out the door, relieved that school was over for the day.

Unknown to anyone, Zim sneaks over and retrieves the book. "What could be so bad about this book? Sounds like something I would read." Snickered Zim.

Later that evening, in his lab, using his computer, Zim translates the book into the Irken Language. Using his ability to speed read, he finishes the book in record time. He sat, long into the night, pondering what he had read. Zim makes a decision, knowing exactly what the consequences would be.

The next day in school, Ms. Bitters yells to the class, "Today's horrible lesson is about something horrible, you're taking a horrible test.So begin."

Zim didn't think twice. He bowed his head to pray.

"Dear God, I ask for your help today, Amen."

"SHUT YOUR MOUTH, YOU STUPID BRAT!" Screeched Ms. Bitters. Zim stood up on his desk and said, "I Don't Care What You Say, I've Got A Right To PRAY!"

Ms. Bitters told Zim not to pray to his God that day. She threatened him, " I'll lock you in detention and throw away the key to the door."

But the very next moment found Zim down, on his bended knees. The difference this time he opened his eyes and stared the devil right in the face.

"I Don't care what you say, I'm gonna pray anyways. gonna lift my hands unto the Lord, for the things He's done for me. Well, you tell these human worm babies not to pray when they walk through the school house door. According to the Constitution, you say, they can't do that anymore. Well, I wonder what ole Daniel would say, if he were alive today. Since the Law declares, No more prayer, I believe this is what Daniel would say..." "Hey! I Don't Care What You Say, I've Got A Right To Pray! I'm gonna lift my hands unto the Lord, for the things he's done for me. I just got to get away, find a place to seek His face, Cause I gotta right to pray."

THE END
