Brock's not in this story because he didn't really fit, sorry T_T.

1 A Christmas Eve's Mystery
1.1 Chapter 1: The Fight
It was one day before Christmas and it was blistering cold outside.
If someone was still out there at this unusual time, it was 1 hour before midnight, and in this weather, he would've seen an upset young lady inside the pokémon center of Sandslash City, her pigtail gently bouncing up and down as she walked her circles.
She was holding a little Togepi in her arms, which didn't look too happy either.
One of the many nurse Joys looked at her computer screen disconcertedly, her Chansey close to her, trying not to make the girl, Misty, any angrier.
In another room sat a pokémon trainer, who was at the same age as the young girl. His Pikachu was sitting at his side, unhappily looking up at him. The pokémon hated the never-ending arguments between his trainer Ash and his friend, Misty.
They've been travelling together for approximately four years now, but at least one fight per day was standard for them. Pikachu knew that they actually liked each other, they were best friends indeed, although neither of them would have ever admitted that.
But this time, their argument had been serious, which didn't happen often.
The normal case was Brock travelling with them. He was older than Ash and Misty, he wanted to become the world's greatest pokémon breeder. Ash and Misty were like siblings to him. He cared for them, helped to settle disputes....all in all, he was much more rational....except when it came to women. Especially nurse Joy and Officer Jenny.
He had wanted to be home for Christmas, so he could celebrate with his father and his many brothers and sisters. Brock had taken off to Pewter already a few days ago, because Sandslash City was situated at like what seemed the end of the world, at least when you had to walk all the way.
Christmas. That wonderful, harmonic time of the year had been the actual reason for the fight. Ash had wanted to be home for Christmas, too, but he hadn't started as early as Brock had had. Ash had wanted to take part in a pokémon tournament, which had taken place that weekend in Sandslash City.
He had thought he could reach his hometown Pallet in time.
But if you know Ash, you also know that he sometimes overrates himself.
Misty and nurse Joy then had told him that reaching Pallet in only 2 days would be impossible. It would've taken at least six days, and they were six days they didn't have because of the tournament. Even if they still had time, the weather got worse and it had gotten colder by the minute, so no chance for him to be home at Christmas.
He had become depressed, then very angry. He had insulted Misty and shouted at her for it was all her fault in his eyes.
"You could've told me before!" he had shouted at her.
"Then I would be home by now with my mom, and wouldn't have to hang around here with you! This isn't how I wanted to celebrate Christmas!"
Since then Misty hadn't exchanged one word with him.
Ash had been storming into another room, cursing, his Pikachu following, trying to calm him down.
Misty settled down on the couch in the entrance hall of the pokémon center, Togepi still in her arms.
She just couldn't believe he had treated her like that.
After all it's been his stupid idea to take part in a tournament so shortly before Christmas, which he didn't even win by the way.
She shook her head absently.
She had awaited Christmas with joy like no other time of the year. Misty didn't get along very well with her sisters back in Cerulean, she would've spent the holidays with Ash and his mother in Pewter. They've always been like a family to her...
But after Ash had made that nasty comment...
How could she have believed that they were good friends? She had been only an unnecessary weight for him. And if he didn't want to have her there at Christmas...fine.
At that very moment she decided not to be some useless follower of him anymore. What was she still doing here, anyway?
Misty had saved some money. She would take a hotel room for a few days and then head back to Cerulean, to continue her activities as a gym leader.
"That's exactly what I'm going to do" she whispered grimly and stood up from the couch.
Togepi, surprised by the sudden movement, looked up at her with questioning eyes. She smiled.
"Everything's okay, Togepi. We'll never have to sleep or eat in a pokémon center ever again. Now we go to a nice hotel, and soon we'll be home."
The little egg pokémon looked back in panic as Misty grabbed her bag and left the pokémon center.
Nurse Joy opened her mouth to ask something, but the door was already shut behind Misty, and her shady silhouette could be shortly (shortly. not right word, I think. maybe "vaguely"?) seen until it faded in the darkness of the night.
Meanwhile, Ash was looking out of the window. Maybe he had been too hard to Misty. He hadn't wanted to hurt her.
He jumped slightly as someone knocked at the door. Maybe it was her? He would apologize.
But only nurse Joy stuck her head in.
"Excuse me....I thought it would be better if you knew that your companion just left the center with her things." She looked at him expectantly.
He didn't believe his ears.
"WHA? Where did she go? Her things?"
Nurse Joy only shrugged.
"She said something about a hotel...I don't know..."
Ash didn't need to hear the rest. He grabbed his backpack, lifted Pikachu up and ran as fast as he could, so he nearly fell before even reaching the door of the pokémon center.
He opened it and the chilly night's air hit him in the face.
Misty shivered.
She'd been walking around the city for almost ten minutes now, and still hadn't seen a single human.
She had hoped to meet someone who could show her the way to some kind of hotel.
Togepi was wrapped up in her jacket, which was protecting it from the cold; the little pokémon was sleeping.
Misty wondered why it hadn't snowed yet. There was nothing better than spending Christmas in front of the fireside with a cup of hot chocolate in your hands. Outside, the fluffy snowflakes would fly by, thousands of tiny white ice crystals, a contrast to the dark night sky....
she got distracted from her thoughts by something sounding like.....footsteps? She listened intensely.
Definitely. Had to be footsteps.
There was it again. Misty went off to the direction the sound came from. Now she could finally ask somebody for the way. Around that corner...
A gasp escaped her. She was looking right in a mischievously grinning face.
He didn't know this man, but she sure knew his uniform. He was a Team Rocket member!
"Oh no..." Misty was frozen. She wanted to run, she wanted to....
But the Rocket member reacted faster. He hauled at her bag violently, finally getting it, then disappeared as fast as he came.
Now she was standing there, freezing, only with her jacket and Togepi in her arms.
"Damnit!" At least he didn't steal Togepi. Now she was glad that she had left her other pokémon in Cerulean the last time they had visited her sisters. They had needed them more than her right then. They were such lousy gym leaders.
But her money...she could get the hotel suite out of her head now. Her sleeping bag was gone, too. Maybe she would find a place to stay, anyway. Such things always happened to Ash, Brock and her, it couldn't be that difficult.
She could've gone back to the pokémon center, but she wouldn't. Ash probably only waited for that.
With clenched teeth and keeping close to the street lamps, she continued her way.
"Pikachu, do you hear something?"
Pikachu's ears twitched, then the little yellow rodent shook it's head.
She couldn't have gotten that far, right?" Ash asked with growing desperation.
"Could you...somehow find her track?"
"Pikachu Pi!" Pikachu hopped off his trainer's shoulder and started sniffing at the ground.
After passing a few streets, the pokémon looked up.
"Pikachu!" it said emphatically, while pointing up a path with its little finger.
Maybe that path wasn't very long, but you couldn't tell, because its end was enclosed by darkness.
End part 1.
