Disclaimer. They aren't mine (big surprise, right?). I do it just for fun.
Author notes. This is my first fanfic, I don't have a Beta and English isn't my mother tongue. Please, feedback (play nice, please).
Alone.
Again he was alone.
He was in a cab on the way to the Seaquest.
None will miss him. He had no friends at all. Everyone he ever met want something from him: their parents wanted him to be showed like the perfect genius boy; the schoolmates wanted their homework done; in college, the others students wanted him to make theirs projects. Now the UEO wants him because his computer skill. The only people he could call friends he had never meet them in person. They were all in the Internex. There he can be himself.
"Work for the UEO is going to be the best for your future, Lucas" his father had said.
'Work! Yeah, he would better have said slavery' he thought.
His father had sold him to the highest bidder. He wasn't going to forget the bargain between his father and the representative of the best Companies, Organization even States. All they wanted him in their team. His father had played well his cards and now he was going to receive the UEO support in all his projects, while his son was going to be stuck in a submarine and work for free.
'He never asked me what I want or need. He could have asked me if I had another idea. But, did he do it? No! "Lucas, you have to do what I tell you to do, because I'm your father".'
A lonely tear ran on his cheek and he quickly wiped it away with his right hand. 'Never let them see your weakness,' he thought dryly 'they can use it against you.'
He arrived to the port, paid the cab and took his stuff from the trunk. At the Seaquest gate, one of the military men stopped him.
"Sorry, kids aren't allowed in this place" an officer said to him.
"Check it again. I'm Wolenczak and I'm supposed to meet the Admiral Noyce" he said while he gave him his identification.
The officer gave him an odd look. However he accepted his ID and checked it on his list. When he found him, he opened his eyes wide.
"Who could have imagine it" he whispered. Then he ordered him "Wait here. I need to contact the Admiral."
In less than five minutes, Admiral Noyce appeared smiling at him.
"Lucas! It's good to see you!" he greeted him. "I'm glad you decided to join us."
"I didn't know I had another chance" Lucas grumbled.
Noyce smile froze but it didn't disappear. "Let's get you to your cabin" He took the kid by the arm and guided him inside the submarine. "You are going to love this place, Lucas. Think about all the things you could learn here." He said friendly. "You might, as well, keep working on your projects. Actually, we are really interested in all of them. You have a bright brain." The Admiral kept talking although Lucas wasn't playing attention. Everyone they met stopped to look amazed at him. The kid blushed. He found that the situation was really embarrassing.
"Ok, here we are" Noyce said while he opened the cabin door. "Sorry we hadn't finished installing the computer system, but I'm sure you will do it faster and..." The Admiral's Pal rang "Noyce... yes, I'll be there in five minutes. Excuse me, Lucas, they need me on the bridge. Why don't you make yourself comfortable? I'll be back in a few minutes." He turned to go. "Ah! Just one thing, you should better not wandering around while I'm out, you could get lost. When I'm back I'll introduced you to the Commander Ford and the Scientist Chief Dr. Westphalen."
'So, this is my room' he sighted looking all the mess around. Lucas dropped his stuff and sat in his bunk. "Home, sweet, home... I guess."
