"Escape", all characters contained within, and the general overall concept of "Escape" is completely copyright Orin Drake 1997-2002. I can get away with this because no one's names have been used, so neener.
Background: It was a dream I had years ago, anyway. So neener again. For the record, I have a Legend of Zelda dream every once in a while, and have ever since I played the first game. This, remarkably, was my very first Zelda dream. What a way to start, huh?

Escape
by Orin Drake

The pure coal darkness was seized and crushed to the ground only for an instant as the fingers of lightening grasped for it's throat. In vain the earth rolled loudly, but the darkness had escaped and captured the world again.
The sound of heavy, frightened footsteps created only a momentary diversion as it crossed the paths of light and shadow, then continued quickly on it's way. Rudely and right after, many more pairs of viciously heavy footsteps and scrapes erupted in a lengthy tremor and passed back into the night. Satisfied, shadow and light began once again.
The darkness opened just twice to see the boots of the chased and the slightly silvery light reflected off the ruptured puddles. Again the darkness enveloped back into place, avoiding yet more fingers of cobalt and purple.
But the night's annoyance was not to last. The chased, wild footsteps stopped pouring suddenly, and the panic and fear was strong and thick as iron, becoming a living thing. The fear given life approached with a million minions, and the chased boy looked pathetic and wretched against them, his back to the wall that had forced his halt.
The malicious laughter of the breathing emotion was enough to snap the fingers of the night and sway the shadows away into themselves. With a grotesquely rotting finger, the demon gave its orders and the extensive minions closed in.
The flesh shattering swat of the chains was barely enough to cover the screams of the boy. The minions did not stop until the breath was beaten out of him, and he lay lifeless and no longer resembling anything that had ever lived.
The demon simply pulled at what once was the boy's hand, and it easily fell away from the puddle that had merged with the ground. He laughed.
