At Least
A ray of light
shone through the crack in the curtain from the moon outside.
That was the only light in the room. The rest was in total
darkness. In the background REM, Everybody Hurts was playing.
Mascara stained her pillow where she had been crying into it a
couple of hours ago. A few hours ago her best friend had left,
forever. He'd gone to a better place though. Just like her mother
had.
If only the three of them hadn't got into an argument. About the
never ending love triangle they had got themselves into. It hurt
him, the fact that she could not let go of the best friend they
shared. It would always come between them, never leaving their
thoughts. He wouldn't have gone walking off like that if there
wasn't an argument. The screeching of the car brakes still filled
her head as she lay there. The two of them had ran round the
corner onve they'd heard the car and found him lying there in
front of a car, not moving. A crowd had gathered around him. She
had pushed her way through and knelt down beside him. Blood
flowed from a cut on his head and he was hardly breathing. She
had grabbed his hand tightly.
"Hold on!" she told him between sobs as the tears
flowed down her cheeks like the blood did down his face.
"I love you Josephine Lillian Potter." He said
breathlessly.
It had made her cry harder. It was like he knew he didn't have
long left.
"I love you Pacey J Witter."
With what was left of his strength he tighten his grip on her
hand.
She didn't leave his side until the nurses at the hospital made
her. They'd let her spend half an hour saying goodbye to him
alone. Eventually they had to drag her away. Dawson had come with
her. He hadn't cried though, for the last few months he had hated
Pacey, so felt nothing. He drove her home where she ran off after
getting out the car. Straight to her bedroom. There she switched
on her CD player and cried into her pillow for two whole hours.
Her one true love, her best friend had died in her arms. At least
he died knowing she loved him. And she knew she would never love
anyone like she loved him.
The End
