If you're wondering, the title is Latin for "Angel Children", and Hero2's name is Riku. All right, considering this is my first completed fanfiction ever plus it was written because my coughing is keeping me awake, I don't think this is good at all. ._. but someone is going to kill me if I don't post it for some reason. So yes. Please be a little gentle when reviewing, considering that. I don't mind constructive criticism, but no one likes being bashed unless you mean that guy who used to write those really bad lemons and post them here. Anyway, this will be in three parts. Thoughts are in [brackets]. Enjoy. --nikore

Sunlight stretched through the sky and onto the clearing of where two boys sat, their moods bright form the thought of returning home. Out of patriotism, both had joined the Unicorn Youth Brigade and found out too late that neither were mentally prepared for war. Peace was a loving mother they would gladly embrace and wish to never let go.
The fair-haired Jowy sighed in complacency, the gentle smile he wore in almost every situation warmer. "What do you want to go back to most, Riku?"
Thinking was unnecessary for Riku. "Nanami. You know that."
Smile melting, Jowy replied "Oh... really. Isn't there something you're thankful for here? Anything that you can trust to always be here the whole day and remain the next? And will only be able to see until sundown in Kyaro?"
"Jowy, you'll always be back the next day... and you need to spend time with your family sometimes." The smile was resurrected on is dark-haired friend's face.
[What family? None of them want me to be part of it, and if I could help it, I wouldn't be. But I can't... and still they hold that against me. Families don't do that.] Jowy rubbed his eyes with the heels of his hands.
The voice of his friend lured him back into reality. "Jowy? You've been too quiet recently... don't try to deny it. I've noticed."
"So you did. No one else does. Did you notice that too?" He continued before Riku had a chance to respond, his mood obviously spoiled. "Has anyone noticed that, even if they're known me for longer than ten years?" Concern and pity burned in Riku's eyes when Jowy had the nerve to look into them. "Just you. That's why you're special to me. That's why..." His voice cracked and he breathed in deeply to mentally steady himself. "... why I love you." Quickly, he brought his lips to the other boy's and wrapped his arms protectively around his shoulders.
Riku drew away when he'd had a few seconds to realize what had happened. Sometime during the kiss, Jowy had started crying, and he clung to Riku like an infant to his mother. "Jowy... no. I'm sorry. Let me go."
Tears glimmered in the sunlight as Jowy turned his face to his best friend's. "Must I?" he choked.
"Please," replied Riku, his voice unusually low. "I'm sorry."
Jowy turned to the path that led to camp. "Yeah. I am too." He started on his way back, his gaze cast almost as low as his spirits.
