Luke watched her as she went to a couple to get their orders. He
didn't understand why she would always back away whenever they started to
get close. He watched as she headed back around the counter giving the order
to the cook. She, then, made her way to the pool table where he was standing.

"Hey, Luke. Are you having a good time?" Sophia asked as she her uniform up
trying to make herself look presentable.

"Yeah. Do you want to play?" Luke asked. He hope that she would say yes
but he kept his mouth shut.

"No thanks. I have to get back to work." Sophia looked at Luke with a
shy longing.

~Every day here you come walking
I hold my tongue, I don't do much talking
You say you're happy and you're doin' fine
Well go ahead, baby, I got plenty of time
Sad eyes never lie
Sad eyes never lie~

Sophia headed back to work with Luke watching her back. His eyes never
strayed from her body. She never took notice to the fact that Luke stayed in
one place as he held on to the pool stick as if it was a life saver.

~Well for a while I've been watching you steady
Ain't gonna move 'til you're good and ready
You show up and then you shy away
But I know pretty soon you'll be walkin' this way
Sad eyes never lie
Sad eyes never lie~

Sophia stopped what she was doing and took a quick glance over to where Luke
was standing. She noticed his intense stare. A smile played upon her face but
then she frowned. She didn't want to be played into one of his games. There was
no way Luke would want to fall in love with a half breed like her.

~Baby don't you know I don't care
Don't you know that I've been there
Well if something in the air feels a little unkind
Don't worry darling, it'll slip your mind~

Sophia went about her day working into the late hours. When things started
to slow down, she decided that she should take Luke up on his offer to play pool. When
she got back from cleaning up, she headed for the pool tables. She stopped where she was.
Luke was no where in site. Tears started to well up in her eyes as thought that she
had missed her chance.

~I know you think you'd never be mine
Well that's okay, baby, I don't mind
That shy smile's sweet, that's a fact
Go ahead, I don't mind the act
here you come all dressed up for a date
Well one more step and it'll be too late
Blue blue ribbon in your hair
Like you're so sure I'll be standing there
Sad eyes never lie
Sad eyes never lie~

A hand grabbed ahold of Sophia's shoulders turning her around. Soon Luke's deep brown
eyes were searching her soul. She noticed that, like her eyes, his had tears in them.
Without thinking, she gave him a deep hug. He returned it as they both clung to each
other never wanting to let go.

~Sad eyes never lie
Sad eyes never lie~
