PART ONE

"So when are you leaving?"
"I think I'm gonna head out early tomorrow morning."
Hilde nodded. She knew Duo had to go. At first she didn't want to agree with him. Just because those men had come... but she knew it would just get worse for both of them if he didn't. And he was right. He was a Gundam pilot. He had certain responsibilities. But she still hated it. She wanted to go. She could become a soldier again. She remembered how much she hated the war though... Maybe Duo was right. Maybe it was better if she just stayed there.
***
If you have to go
I'll understand
But the pain's so hard to take
when we're apart...

"Just... be careful out there, okay Duo?"
Duo grinned at her. "Don't worry about me, Babe! I'm always careful!"
"Yeah..." she said.
Duo moved over to the couch and sat next to her. He put his arm around her shoulders. She leaned in. "Y'know, I'm really gonna miss you, Babe."
Hilde felt the tears welling up inside of her. There was a lump in her throat the size of a tennis ball and a pit in her stomach. She turned away. "Yeah," she whispered. "I'll miss you too, Duo." She stood up quickly.
***
You'll never see me cry
it's locked away
But there's this feeling deep within me
wants to stay...
***
Duo stood up behind her. "Hilde, are you okay?" He put his hands on each of her shoulders.
"I'm fine!" she said sharply, trying to keep her voice steady. "I'm gonna go start dinner." She rushed off, leaving Duo standing there dumbstruck.
Duo sat back down. He ran his hand through his bangs and sighed angrily. He really didn't want to go fight anymore. He was actually having fun here, running the scrap yard with Hilde. He almost wished he wasn't a Gundam pilot. He enjoyed living a normal life.
But that was the reason to fight. When the war ended, he could go and have a normal life.
