Severus Snape's Prayer
by Mackenzie Thea
Dedication: This is dedicated to my loving brother-in-law who thinks Harry Potter is Satan. I'm working on it, okay?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Severus Snape lie awake in his bed, macabre notions filled his mind in place of thoughts. He couldn't sleep, he couldn't even think now. Somehow, he knew why, and he knew what he must do. He had to talk to someone, and he knew who.
Severus got out of bed, and then turned around and kneeled beside it. He intertwined his fingers, closed his eyes, and bowed his head.
"Heavenly father, hallowed be thy name. Of your names I call to you; Jehovah El Roi, the God who sees: watch over us in this time of war. Jehovah Sabbaoth, Lord of the hosts: protect us in this time of battle. Jehovah Nisi, my banner whom I must hide in the face of thine enemies. Help me to strike a silent blow to evil by just embracing you within their ranks. Let this great betrayal be their downfall. Lord Adonai, I now live only to do your will.
"Lord forgive me for mistreating Harry Potter, I harbor still hate for his father. As you know, that hate distances me from you. Please protect Potter and his alike in the days to come. Lord, watch over Albus Dumbledore, make sure that his heart is not heavy in this great struggle. Take away his fear and give him the strength to endure.
"Father please forgive me, for I can not compose the fear that dwells within me or the rate at which it magnifies. I can not close my eyes without hearing the cries of those that fell by my hand. Father, will I fall into my old ways? Would I dare push away paradise to become evil again? I know you have forgiven me father, but I have not forgiven myself."
Tears fell down Severus' face as he said the final words of his prayer.
"In Jesus' name, amen."
As he climbed into bed he failed to notice the fact that he was being watched with disaproving eyes.
"Oh Severus, what am I to do with you?" An evil voice whispered to itself. "I had thought you had come back to me out of loyalty. No matter, I knew that many of my men have left me to worship this Jesus of Nazereth. Oh well, you will die of course, but not before I take from you any hope you once possesed. Let us see then which is stronger,th power of Lord Voldemort, or the 'divinity' of Lord Jesus Christ? Will you think twice about your faith in him if everything you have is destroyed by a mere man? That is, if I continue to be just a man... oh well Severus, pray now and sleep. For in a fortnight the two shall be all you have. A prayer, and an everlasting sleep. Let us see then if you would die for this Lord, or turn from him in your darkest hour. Let us see, Severus, let us see..."
The End
