At Home with The McGonagall's
It was the sunniest of June days when a taxi driver pulled to the curb at Number One, McGonagall Park in the suburbs of London. A woman of about 70 paid the driver, stepped out, and looked at her home as though it had been a year since she'd last seen it. In fact, it had been. Just then a man appeared from across the street.
"Mrs. McGonagall! How wonderful to see you! It seems like this year has been slower than all the others!" "Yes, it certainly has. How are you Sam?"
"Oh I am fine. Can I take your bags?"
"Yes, thank you. Just inside the door, please. Oh and Sam, do be careful with that case just there. It is old, you know." She had a stern look on her face that he knew all too well.
"Yes Mrs. McGonagall, I'll be sure of it. Not to worry." He replied.
They walked into the house, and Professor McGonagall took off her traveling cloak and hung it on the coat rack. She could have easily passed for a muggle at this point.
"Thank you for carrying those in for me. It's good to know that there are good people like you still out there." She said.
"Oh. It was no trouble Mrs. McGonagall. How is David?" he asked.
With this, all her memories of life away from Hogwarts came rushing back.
"I don't know yet. I'll let you know though."
"Oh alright. Well I'd better be off, see you later."
"Bye then."
She then made her way up the stairs. She walked slowly down the hall, which finally opened up into a large room. There, on the far end of the room in a bed, lay an old man, who looked to be about the same age as she.
"David, I am here." She said airily, as she sat down in a chair next to the bed. No reply came from the man, but she looked as though she had expected this.
"David, something terrible has happened. Tom Riddle has returned to power. A Hogwarts student was killed earlier this month. I don't know what will come of this. I hate that-that bastard so very much for what he's done to you." She began to cry, and then closed her eyes and leaned back into the chair.
Suddenly, David woke up. He blinked his eyes momentarily, bringing the room into focus.
"Don't cry Minerva," he said. "We can overcome the next great obstacle together."
"David? Oh David is it really you? After all these years?"
"Yes Minerva, it really is me. How many years has it been?"
"Oh my. Fifteen, I do believe."
" I was in a coma for FIFTEEN years?" he cried.
"I'm afraid so. Now that you are back we can finally have the life that was taken from us all those years ago. Dear Arabella will be so pleased when she finds out. She has taken care of you for the past fifteen years while I was away teaching."
"Arabella? That old bat is still alive? Only joking, dear. I can't wait to see my older sister!"
"Yes. She will be most anxious to see you, as well."
David nodded, and then quickly surveyed himself, looking at his hands and reaching for a mirror.
"Merlin's Beard! I am an old man!" he exclaimed.
"And I am an old woman," she said.
"Ah now. You haven't changed a bit since the last time I saw you. Just as beautiful as ever."
"David." She said, and began to blush.
He stretched out his arms and pulled her into a hug. When they stopped, he said, "I think it's time to see if these legs will work again."
"Careful. You don't want to hurt yourself."
"Really now. I'm fine."
He put his feet on the floor, and pulled himself into a standing position. Minerva watched with anticipation as he began to step, and then.he was walking! She was overcome with joy. Before she could say anything, he said" Minerva! Get the kids over here, I want to see them immediately!"
"Absolutely. I'll ring them straight away." And she literally ran towards the phone.
