Shu pulled the collar of his coat up as he stared out at the dark, murky
waters. Things had changed in the Hagi Sea. It was dirtier, polluted. If
he looked close enough he could see a red tint to the water, whether it
was his imagination or the sea's memories were irrelevant to him.
Shu walked out on the dock.Three years. It had been three years since
it had happened. Nothing had changed for him.
"Hey Shu, you wanna go swimming?"
"Nah, I think I'll sun up here."
Almost nothing.
"Shu what happened out there?"
"I don't know Ryo! It . . . It just happened . . ."
He'd tried to suicide. But one of them would find him and stop him.
There was so much blood. So much blood.
The sky clouded over above him. Water began to fall. He lowered himself to sit on the dock. The water ran down his hair and clothes, comforting him. The beach was deserted. It no longer had the friendly atmosphere that attracted people. That had been lost, as if the sea wanted nothing to disturb it's memories.
The boat sped by and a thick redness spread after its wake.
Shu closed his eyes as the images threatened to overwhelm him. His friends had tried to help him, but their words did nothing to ease the pain.
"Shu are you okay?"
"Touma found you like this."
"I'll be fine Seiji."
Rescuers went after the form that bobbled in the water.
Shin.
He had lived through Arago's two invasions, Shikaisen, Kuroi Kikoutei,
and Suzunagi. Only to die by a stupid boat running him over.
Now Shu felt so empty, so lost. Shin had been his best friend.
"And I couldn't help him when he needed me the most." Thunder crashed
its disagreement. The sea began to foam.
There was no one with him to stop him. Shu braced his hands against
the dock. Tears slid down his cheeks. Without thinking, he
pushed himself off the dock, plunging into the welcoming, storm-churned
waters. He lost himself in the coldness. Instinctively he gasped,
and water streamed into his lungs. He closed his eyes.
Now he and Shin could be together again, forever.
The storm dissipated, and the sea quieted.

Sorry if Shu or Shin are your favorite characters. I've been
reading too many stories in which 'my' Touma (:P) had died. So blame
it on those writers. It's not that I don't like those two, but they're
so close, it's easy to do something like this. (okay so maybe their
friendship is unofficial, who cares?) Besides I couldn't do something to
Touma!
