It was a cold day. Andrew was wearing a heavy coat and tramping through his home town, Cinnabar Island. The 11-year-old boy was due to take Pidgeot Airlines to New Bark Town tomorrow. He was going to get his first Pokémon.
***
Andrew climbed into bed, yawning exhaustedly. It was 11:30. He always went to sleep late, though he didn't know why. Anyway, he could hardly sleep. "Yayness! I get my Pokémon tomorrow! Happy, happy, happy!" It was as if he was sugar-high, which he probably was. Instead of getting some shut-eye, he had decided to choose which Pokémon he would select. "Cyndaquil! I always loved fire ty--no, no...Totodile because I can surf on 'em! Naw, Chikorita. Woohoo, vines!" He tried to decide, but to no avail. The next day, he still hadn't the faintest idea.
"I'm halfway there," he thought. "and have no clue!" When he had gotten off the Pidgeot, he trudged to Professor Elm's lab. Upon arrival, his mind randomly chose. His first Pokémon would be a Totodile.
But, however, when he went in, he learned that those Pokémon were not the ones a trainer could choose. Andrew had to choose from a Magby, an Oddish, or a Goldeen. The boy selected the Magby, and had a big surprise.
"Today was a contest!", Elm said happily. "You get two extra Pokémon!" Andrew was amazed. "Dude!", he yelled. "Well, your Magmar is equipped with Ember, your prize Pokémon(Sentret and Spinarak) are equipped with a few nice attacks.
Sentret knows Tackle and Defense Curl, and Spinarak(a blue one, which is highly unusual) knows Poison Sting, String Shot, and, strangely, Solar Beam.", Elm told the dancing boy, who was now on the ground, giggling. "Yayness!", Andrew yelled for the second time in this story. He danced happily back to the Pidgeot and rode it home.
***
He set out northwards on the back of his father's Lapras. The Pokémon shot as quickly as possible toward Fuchsia City, but had to take a rest in the Seafoam Islands, where, coincidentally, one of Andrew's friends lived.
"Hey, Jon!", Andrew shouted as he collapsed on the doorstep of the moderately-sized house. His friend, Jonathan, bounded down the stairs. "H--it's just you...", he said.
"Erm, aren't you wondering why I'm here?"
"Oh, yeah, I was about to ask you that."
Andrew sighed. "Whatever." He left the house, but as soon as he stepped out...
