1 The Everlasting Cliché
The dance music was throbbing at the Kingsport EMS Station New Years' Party. Val, along with Alex, Brooke, and the rest of the 'super squad' had organized it. Most of the EMTs were either dancing or sitting around and talking in the common room at the station as midnight fast approached.
Emphasis on 'most.' Tyler, for reasons unknown as of yet, was looking frantically for Brooke, at about 11. He couldn't find her anywhere. Desperately, he poked his head into the office quickly, and there she was. Brooke, in her sparkly purple tank top and short black skirt, was filing some last-minute paperwork.
"Brooke?" Tyler asked. She looked up. "I need to ask your help on something."
"Yeah?"
"Does Val like me?" He asked rather abruptly.
"What do you mean?" She asked, feigning clueless.
"You know what I mean! Like, as in more than friends."
"I dunno, she never told me outright." She said. "I dunno, why?"
She was grating on Tyler's last nerve. "You know how there's that tradition of kissing when the ball drops? I want to know whether to try to kiss her."
"Well." said Brooke slowly. "Hold on. I have an idea."

Val was having a good time on the makeshift dance floor at five minutes till midnight, wondering vaguely and in fleeting where Tyler was, when she felt a tugging hand on hers. She looked over.
"What do you want, Brooke?"
"Come on," Brooke insisted.
"Brooke, I'm dancing! What do you want?" Val asked.
"Come on," Brooke said more urgently.
"Oh, you're so annoying!" Val said exasperatedly, thinking over her options. If something were seriously wrong, Brooke would have said something more urgent, and would be dragging Val more forcefully. Wherever Brooke was taking her, she probably had no less chance of seeing Tyler then she had staying on the dance floor. Sighing, she addressed Brooke. "Lead the way."
Brooke led her down a familiar corridor. "Brooke! Where are we going? I'm going to miss the ball dropping!" By then, it was three minutes till. People were scrambling for the sparkling cider.
"Brooke!" Brooke just motioned for Val to follow her.
"Hold on," she said.
They reached the end of the corridor. There was a small room, decorated with lots and lots of shiny tinsel. All above the doorway were lots of little clusters of mistletoe.
'Three.. two.' could be heard from down the hallway as Tyler pointed upward. Val had already noticed.
'ONE!!!' was heard as Val and Tyler locked lips.
Brooke smiled contently. "My work here is done." she said, hurrying back to join the party.

"Caitie, it was the perfect fairytale New Years' Eve." Val gushed into the phone.
"Hmph." Snorted Caitie. "More like the everlasting cliché."
2 THE END
Author's Note: Well that was interesting. I just sort of sat down and wrote this. Sorry if it's bad. Review please?
