Title: Watching From Afar
Author: Ami-chan
Rating: PG
Pairing: Haru is just thinking about Yuki a lot.....
A brush of cold air swept by as I stood behind a tree watching you. Watching you gracefully walk through the snow. Watching your lips blowing small puffs of warmth. Watching your silk like hair dance momentarily with the wind. Another gust of wind had passed by, this time making you shiver. My heart would just pound faster, thinking, were you all right? Were you hurt anywhere? Times like these I just wanted to run out there and wrap my arms around you to keep you warm. Of course that would be like a duck swimming right next to a hunter.
Sometimes I wonder what made me fall for you. Was it your grace? Your strength? Your sharpness? Or perhaps it was just everything about you. From those sorrowful eyes to that civil manner of yours. You were the one who reminded me that it wasn't what the legends say of how the ox was stupid to have the rat ride on him that determined who I am. You were the one who defended me against those who teased and bullied me without resorting to violence like I would. You were the one who relinquished my vengeful grudge. It was you. Whatever the cause was really didn't seem to matter now. I've fallen into the hole and unable to climb back up.
Unfortunately, my thoughts were interrupted as Tohru had came into view, beckoning you to come inside from the cold. By all means, I think that she is a very nice girl. Always polite and looks to the best of everyone before concerning herself. But jealousy stabs through my heart everytime I see her talk to you. Everytime she blushes at your compliments. It hurts most of all when she did something to earn a smile from you. A feat that no one could accomplish except for her. There were even times when my envy gets the best of me. Thoughts of 'What makes her so special?!' or 'What can she do that I can't?!' would float on my head, but I wouldn't really say that. Never. Not ever.
I jolted when I heard someone shout out my name. "Hatsuharu-kun! What are you doing over there? Come on over!" Tohru called out radiating with happiness. I gave a smile and started walking towards them. "What are you doing here?" she asked. Believe me, the words 'I wanted to see Yuki' just wanted to come out. Instead, I answered with my usual aloofing tone, "I was just passing by."
"Would you like to stay for lunch?" she asked. I was about to say no and head back home. Being caught staring at someone and have the captor invite you to lunch seemed embarrassing. "Do stay and keep us company Haru...." another voice joined in, a calm on this time.
"All right," was the immediate reply. It was like I have this auto- obey Yuki system in me. If he wanted me to stay for lunch, I'll stay for lunch. If he wanted me to go and jump in a freezing river, I'll go and jump in a freezing river. We quickly trudged back to the house that was called home. Tohru took the liberty of cooking right when she stepped in, while Yuki and I sat under the electic blanket sipping tea. Occasionally I looked up from my cup to see the object of my affection basking in the warmth.
This was enough for me. I don't want to damage the friendship we have right now. I don't want him to be disgusted, knowing his cousin, and a guy no doubt having romantic feelings for him. It was enough. Even if it hurts to see him brighten when Tohru is around, but seeing him happy eases the pain. It was enough. To watch from afar.
