Kathryn O'Shaharan sat on her bed, quietly reading a book. She hummed quietly to herself, a lullaby she couldn't remember from whom she heard. "Nagare te yuku mizu ni utsuru omoide no danpen anna omoi kurikaesa nai sou kokoro ni chikau nagare te yuku mizu ni utsuru kanashime ga aru kara kono chikara de kono inochi de omae mamori tae. Mizu kagami de kokoro no kage wo mire ba sore wa ai ga unda mou hitotsu no kao taisetsu ni shitai subete no tame ni mo mou itami kara me o somuke taku nai taisetsu ni shitai subete no tame ni mo Mou itami kara me o somuke taku nai." She sang in a lilting soprano.
"Katie-girl, ye'll be helping me with the laundry now, won't ye?" Her mother's thick Irish accent called to her from the lower floor.
"Aye, Ma." Her own lighter accent replied. She put down the book, repeating a passage from it out loud. "'The moment the page is turned, the story becomes reality.'" What a strange book. She thought to herself, as she turned off the light. When she did, a bright red glow remained, emanating from the book. "What be--" Her lilting voice was cut off as the red glow engulfed her. She screamed silently at she hurtled along a red, glowing tunnel. She saw a phoenix in front of her. It screeched and she suddenly felt herself plummeting to the ground. "AIIIIIIEEEEEEEE!!" She hit something and water filled her opened mouth and nostrils. She flailed about under the water, her leg caught by some piece of waterweed. She felt darkness closing in as she held her breath. Katie attempted to fight it off, but it gradually took over, and she stopped moving.
Chichiri had been fishing quietly when he heard a scream and saw a splash in another pool. He rushed over to see a young woman of about fourteen or fifteen sinking into the water, thrashing about madly as she tried to reach the surface. Chichiri waited a few moments, hoping that she would make it up on her own, then he realized the air bubbles were no longer rising to the surface. "Shimatta." He dove in after her. He swam around in the darkness of the deep pond, looking and groping for the girl. Finally he grabbed something. He looked at it to see it was hair. Her hair. Chichiri followed it down, to find that her leg had been entangled in a clump of water grass. He yanked her loose, then swam quickly to the surface, holding her in his arms. He put her down on the grass and looked for any sign of life from her. She began to cough up water after a moment or two, and a strange, color-shifting aura surrounded her petite body. Hmmm, better take her to Taitsukun immediately. He thought, picking her up and stepping into his kasa.
Katie stirred, feeling herself being picked up by a pair of strong arms. She felt herself sinking into some area and warmth that surrounded her entire body. "Taitsukun, this young woman apparently fell from the sky or something and landed in one of the ponds no da. She almost drowned, but I pulled her out and then she began to glow with this red light no da. What can you make of it no da?" A kind of high-pitched male voice came from above her.
"Hmmmm. I believe she might well be the Suzaku no miko." Taitsukun replied. "Leave her with me. I want to question her when she wakes up. Go take a bath. You're covered with algae and water grass. I'll call for you later."
"Hai Taitsukun no da." He bowed and then disappeared into his kasa.
