"Pikachu, I chose you." Says Ash, sending out Pikachu again the Graveller, he knew his electric mouse couldn't win, but that was alright, he wasn't meant to, the rock type was his opponent's last pokemon, and pikachu had been in battle already, so had totodile. But, if Pikachu fainted, it wouldn't gain any xp. points from the battle, and thus the water type wouldn't have to split them. And thus, get the experience needed to level up, and evolve to the next stage.  (A change in pokemon battles rules that year said that pokemon gained experience only AFTER the entire battle was over, not just when the enemy pokemon was defeated)
Pikachu did a number of Thundershocks; none of them of course did any damage. Then the Graveller did a rock throw attack that finished off the yellow pokemon, it let out its cry as it fainted. Ash instantly brought out the water pokemon in Pikachu's stead, finishing off the enemy in one blow, fainting it, and giving totodile the xp. needed to level up, and of course, evolve.
"How could you do that to poor Pikachu!" Said Misty, who had been behind him the whole time.
"What do you mean?" Said Ash innocently looking at her only after totodile's evolution was complete so he wouldn't miss anything.
"Ash . . . Don't get me wrong I like pokemon. I don't see how anyone could NOT like them. They're just so cute." Misty hugged her Togepi. "But keeping them in cramped containers and releasing them only to fight?! Don't you realize how sick that is!" She scolded.
The school bell rings signaling the end of recess.
"Don't be so serious Misty . . .. It's only a game." Ash replies as he turned off the just released Pokemon Emerald version and put the game boy in his pocket and headed for class.  After putting her plush Togepi in her backpack, Misty followed.
