Why A Cross?

I am often asked about the cross I wear around my neck. Nearly everyone who knows me even a little looks at me strangely when they see it. They tell me that a cross is not a very "Haruka-like" object to wear. I don't see it that way.

The Cross has a double meaning for me. To me, it represents sacrifice. The sacrifice(s) I have made for this world, for this Universe. for this time. I have given up my idea of a regular future in exchange for uncertainty and constant danger. It also represents my willingness to become a sacrifice, should the occasion arise.

My Cross also reminds me of my devotion. My devotion to my missions, my devotion to my Queen, my Princess, my fellow soldiers, my daughter. and my Michiru. They have all been devoted to me, so how could I not return the feelings? Although my cross does not show my Christian devotion, it is still a symbol of devotion.

Perhaps its symbolism runs deeper than that. After all, a story is only as deep as the person who tells it.
