I have a daemon inside, and showing. Right now, he is a little moth, just
as Lyra, my friend, would have her daemon when she was younger. My name is
Dana, and I go to school with Lyra now. She always talks about some place
called Jordan College where she grew up. She has some odd adventurous
stories, that she loves telling. I never thought that they were true until
one day, the bear that she put into her stories came to visit her. I was
so scared. He is a huge polar bear, and he wore the thickest metal. Lyra
called him Iorek-rather King Iorek Byrinson. What really surprised me was
that, he wasn't just any king or something like that, he was the bear king.
And to think, Lyra claims she helped save bear civilization, and got Iorek
his crown. That girl scares me sometimes.
Lyra and I share a dorm here at St. Marie's. She is so nice, but she was sort of odd when she first came here. Her clothing was messy, and she was always calling out in her sleep to someone called Will. She would cry out and out. Until, one time, she threw her blankets so hard that they came onto my bed, well, at least they seemed like they would. Our beds are not so close that it would be some easy feat. Her dreams scared me, since she seemed to get so sad and upset, it made me sad and upset. So I decided one morning to ask her what her dreams are about.
"You won't believe me, no one ever will." Lyra said.
"Yes I will. I promise. If I don't I won't let anyone else, including you find out." I replied.
"How will I know that you won't go out and tell everyone, and then run up to the infirmary yelling 'Ms. Mary Rachel, that new girl Lyra is nuts!'?"
"I promise I won't please just trust me, I promise. Lyra, you are my best friend here. I wouldn't abandon you for the world! And so, Lyra began her story.
