Harry walked up to her. Her long hair was flying in the wind, and her back
was facing him. She didn't notice him coming.
"Hi Cho," he said. Startled, she turned.
"Harry," she said. He bent over to kiss her, but she pushed him away. "Don't..."
"What's wrong, Cho?"
"Harry...I--I'm sorry," she whispered.
"Sorry? For what?" he said, casting her a puzzled look.
"It's over, Harry. You and me. Our relationship. It's over," she said, tears in her eyes.
"What? But...but why?" he stammered. She was breaking up with him. After six months!
"I...Harry, it's unfair to you. You know I still love Oliver," she replied softly.
"Oliver Wood? He's dead, Cho! He died one year ago..." He took her hand. "You're with me now."
She gently pulled her hand away. "I can't forget him, Harry. He still lives in my heart. I...I can't be with you when I'm thinking of him, Harry."
"I don't mind, Cho. I don't mind you thinking of him--"
"But I do!" she said, cutting him off. "It's so unfair to you...and me. Why stay together when we know we're both unhappy?"
Harry was silent. What could he say? He had noticed it long ago. Five months after Oliver died, he had asked Cho to be together with him, thinking that it was time she started a new relationship and stopped grieving over Oliver. She had rejected him at first, saying that she couldn't forget Oliver yet.
But he had moved her with his sincerity one day. He had told her that he would try...to make her grieve less over Oliver's death. She had agreed, and that had been the happiest moment of his life. But after that, it was not always smooth sailing.
He had noticed that she was always preoccupied with thoughts, mostly of Oliver. He had seen her crying in places where she thought no one will see her. He knew she still loved Oliver Wood. But he had tried to pretend he didn't know. He loved Cho, and he didn't want to lose her.
But today...Cho was leaving him. Somehow she had come to know of the pain he tried to hide. She knew it was pointless for both of them to carry on, trying to deceive themselves. She knew that none of them had gotten over Oliver's death and it was affecting the both of them.
"I'm sorry, Harry. I--I just can't go on like this anymore. Whenever I'm with you, I'll get reminded of Oliver. What's the point? I can't forget him, Harry. I just can't." She was crying.
"So I guess this is the end, huh?" he said. He was in so much agony, so much pain.
"Yes."
Harry looked at her. Cho Chang's long brown hair was flying gently in the wind, and tears were streaming down her cheeks. She turned her head away, not wanting to look into his eyes.
"I love you, Cho," he said finally.
There was a long silence. Both of them stood in the Quidditch pitch, not knowing what to say next, and not willing to say anything. Finally, Cho Chang spoke.
"Goodbye, Harry," she said, looking at him.
Then she turned, and ran...trying to wipe away the onslaught of tears and emotion.
Harry stared at the departing figure.
Then, the tears he had been struggling to control finally fell.
