Disclaimers: Buffy and Spike belong to Joss Whedon, not me.

Pairing: Buffy/Spike

Genre: Poetry, dark, angst

Dedication: For everyone who reads this.

Distribution: Buffy Verse, obviously. And FF.net. Nobody else, please. I'd like to keep this.

SERPENT
by Drusilla

//

I don't dream anymore.

I would come to you,

Silently,

Night by night, when the sun

slipped lost beneath the mists.

You saw me, didn't you?

You saw what I was. The emptiness.

I lost myself. My mind became tangled

on the vine.

And the flower grew ripe until it was

a wild thing, and

Untameable.

You blamed yourself.

I hated you, but I hated myself more.

I wanted to kiss Sin,

and let it course through me,

devour me. Let it take me,

and peel my skin away.

Expose what lay concealed in me.

Let it love me.

And I wanted absolution.

But I could never leave.

I wondered why, at times,

but my mind knew only the dark.

It only remembered the beauty

of purity that held me.

In your arms

I embraced what I was.

In your arms I was what you made me.

In you arms I was loved.

And lost.

//end.
