Disclaimer: As usual, this isn't mine. Sorry.
Summary: What was Han thinking on Bespin, when Leia said "Then you're as
good as gone."? Just a little fic that lets you crawl into Han's head for a
minute. (Kinda scary up there, huh?)
Rating: PG. Nothing in here that wouldn't be in the movies, folks.
Posting: Just drop a line to LeiaAmidala916@yahoo.com. I'll let you. (In fact I'd
be honored since I'm not posted anywhere ::sniff: )
Author's Note: The indented text is lyrics. They're from "If I Were You" by The
Oak Ridge Boys from their album Unstoppable. This is what happens
when my parents make me go with them on day trips from 5 AM to 10 PM.
You'd be surprized what happens in your head after 7 or so hours of the
Oaks.
If I were you
Han gently kissed the top of Leia's head. "Relax," he instructed. "I'll have you back to the fleet in no time."
You've got it made.
You've got no one.
You don't have those strings to tie you down.
She looked at him with her big dark eyes. "And then you're as good as gone, aren't you?"
Oh but someone to trust
Someone to lean on
That's something I would hold on to,
If I were you.
Wait a second! Where had that come from? Han was lost in his own thoughts. One second he couldn't wait to be out on his own again, the next he wanted to stay with Leia.
Leia. What exactly was going on between the two of them anyway? The kiss on the Falcon had made him wonder if they might become more than friends someday.
'If you live that long,' a nagging voice in his head reminded him. And after Ord Mantell he was starting to wonder. Not to mention what had happened to Leia...
Han was starting to figure it out. He loved her. And something told him she loved him back.
You've got it made,
You've got real love-
Something you don't find every day.
But you come and go,
Free as the wind blows.
I wouldn't settle down too soon,
If I were you.
Han was still unsure. Could he trust this woman with his heart? He remembered all too clearly what had happened the last time he'd fallen in love, and he had no desire to repeat the Bria disaster again with Leia. The thought of being in love again scared him. Something hollered at him to run, leave. Now. Before it was too late.
Yet a bigger something told him Leia wouldn't hurt him. She took herself and other people too seriously. And she certainly wasn't heartless enough to cause him deliberate pain. Was she? People changed in matters of love. Still, he was sure he could trust her.
If I were you
I'd stay by her side
I'd be running wild
I would never leave her
That's what I would do
If I were you.
At that moment, before Han could say anything, Chewie arrived with the remnants of Threepio. Lando arrived almost immediately after. Han offered Leia his arm, and they followed Lando down the hallway.
Han smiled inwardly. This was how things should be. Leia and Han, together. Even if it didn't go any farther than this. Maybe this time, being in love wouldn't be that bad.
I wouldn't change one single thing,
If I were you.
