To Arwen Undomiel
You were the Evenstar, a bright shining light
To your people. Your hair as dark as a river
That flows during the night, your eyes so grey
They put the very twilight to shame, your love...
A story that legends will speak of forever
And you will never be forgotten, sweet princess
You dwelled in Rivendell, an elven princess
And you knew the Golden Wood's pure light
You were born never to die, to live forever
To flow through the ages like a great river
And your eyes would show your wisdom and love
Of all things as you walked in robes of blue and grey.
But as the evening faded from blue to grey
Destiny spoke; not forever would you be a princess.
There would be something that stirred your love...
A man, who had not your elven light
And as you walked along the banks of the river
In the cool evening, your life would change forever.
Aragorn, whom Gondor had waited for forever--
Mortal man, hair of black and eyes of grey,
Like your own. They clashed and like a river
And the sea, became one in time, the Heir and the Princess,
A man and an elven maiden, held by a rare light,
A new feeling, a promise of eternal love.
But like every destined loved
Something would need to be foresaken forever.
So you, within your eyes a brilliant light
Chose a mortal life in the twilight of grey,
Swore a promise, were not an immortal princess
Any longer. Yet hope still sparkled in the water of the river.
Your time flowed and passed like that river
And many tongues spoke of the man who was your love
And you, too, a gentle, bright-eyed elven princess.
They will speak of you for eternity, beyond forever.
Even after the old tales grow to a dark grey,
And are forgotten, yours will still be bathed in light.
Evenstar, your life moved like the river that swirled towards
the sea forever
You bore the greatest and truest love within your deep eyes of
grey
You will forever be a princess, always remembered with the
evening star's light.

A/N: Please forgive the overall...'blahness' of this poem, since
it was my very first shot at a sestina -- if you think those
things are easy, you're out of your mind. Blah (again). I should
have tried harder, but this was hard enough as it is :( Hope
someone enjoys it.
