My Only Love
By: Sugar Princess
Disclaimer: No one belongs to me. Shock.
Song: My only love, which is a song from some 'Sailor Moon' CD that I heard and fell in love with. Don't ask.
Author's Note: This, I fear, is my parting gift to you. Hopefully when I return (when, I do not know) I will have some big stories and a few little stories, but I won't stop writing.
Satine quietly stepped out on to the balcony. She needed some fresh air.
She turned to see Christian sleeping. She smiled.
Turning back to the view of the Moulin Rouge, Satine shuddered. She knew what she was doing was wrong.
Deep in my soul
Love so strong
It takes control
Not that she cared, mind you. She was scared for Christian, she was scared for herself, she was scared of the consequences.
They both knew what she was. A Courtesan. She was paid to make men believe what they wanted to believe.
That was her job.
Now we both know
The secret's bared
The feelings show
She knew she loved him. Whether or not she had told him was another thing, but she did. She knew he loved her, he professed it often enough. And not like some of the drunken old men who had slobbered those three words into her ear: I love you.
She knew sooner or later they would have to end it. Everyone knew; Harold was right. It was only a matter of time before it slipped, or the Duke found out.
It was for the best.
Wasn't it?
Driven far apart
I'll make a wish
On a shooting star
Satine looked up at the stars. That's what they called her, wasn't it? The star of the Moulin Rouge?
Was she to be compared to those lovely sparkling things up in the sky? Was she all that wonderful?
There will come a day
Somewhere far away
In your arms I'll stay
My only love
Satine shook her head. She was thinking too much. And thinking too much gave her a headache, and when she got headaches, it became harder for her to breathe. No, she had to stop being analytical and get back into bed.
She turned and crossed the room to his bed, climbing into next to him carefully so she wouldn't wake him up. She laid her head on his pillow, looking at him.
She traced her finger along his jaw bone. He sighed in his sleep and moved closer to her. A strand of his dark hair fell across his eyes. Satine brushed it back.
What would she do without him? Could she go back to the way she was before?
Even though you're gone
Love will still live on
The feeling is so strong
My only love
Satine wasn't sure she could. She was used to him. Used to his arms around her, used to his kisses, his laughs, his expressions, and his love.
No, she thought stubbornly. I'm not ready to give him up.
There will come a day
Somewhere far away
In your arms I'll stay
My only love
One day, she would have to. This she knew. But until then, she would soak up as many happy, sunshine-filled moments with him as possible.
She instinctively reached out and pulled him to her, kissing his forehead. She rested her forehead against his and closed her eyes.
"I love you." She whispered.

She had been gone for a week, Christian realized dimly. A week without her caresses. A week without her kiss. A week without her voice.
Even though you're gone
Love will still live on
The feeling is so strong
My only love
He still loved her. Yes, he did. And he always would. She represented euphoria for him. All four of his beloved Bohemian Ideals. And no matter what anyone told him, she did.
You're reached the deepest part
Of the secret in my heart
I've known it from the start
My only love
Only she knew him completely. No one else did, no one else would. Satine was the only one that would ever have access to his heart.
My Only Love.
