A/N: Sad songfic. Honestly, it's not rubbish, just read it. The song is "You Can Still be Free" is Savage Garden from their "Affirmation" CD.
Disclaimer: I don't own Dragonball Z or Savage Garden.
A man with dark hair looked down to Earth, his coal black eyes full of emotions unexpressed. He was a murderer, a torturer and many other things besides. He had committed so many crimes. Destroyed so many planets and races. A stray wind slapped his face, as though punishing him.
Cool breeze and autumn leaves
Slow motion daylight
A lone pair of watchful eyes
Oversee the living
Feel the presence all around
A tortured soul
A wound unhealing
No regrets or promises
The past is gone
But you can still be free
If time will set you free
He looked down on his home. He thought it funny that the planet he had set out to destroy had become his home. That people he had set out to destroy had become friends...or even more. Like Bulma. He truly did love her with all his heart, but his crazy pride had never allowed him to say so. She had grayed some of his blackness like adding white paint to black. Only a dab, but it still was noticable. To him, anyway.
Time now to spread your wings
To take flight
The life endeavour
Aim for the burning sun
You're trapped inside
But you can still be free
If time will set you free
But it's a long long way to go
He flew on in the bright light. The sun had only just risen, dyeing the skies scarlet. No-one could see him, so it didn't matter. No-one he cared about would ever see him again. Not Bulma, Trunks, Bra, not even his sworn enemy, Kakarott.
Keep moving way up high
You see the light
It shines forever
Sail through the crimson skies
The purest light
The light that sets you free
If time will set you free
Rain beagn to fall, but it did not wet him. He finally found what he had been looking for. He looked down to Capsule Corporation, and saw outside, a woman crying. He flew down to sit beside her. Her blue hair was stuck to her face in strands wet with both rain and tears.
"Woman...no, Bulma...I have no need for pride anymore," he said, knowing that she would never hear him. "I love you." Her face softened.
"Vegeta, wherever you are, I hope you can hear me. I will always love you," she said. It was almost as though she had heard his words. His own tears began to fall and he wiped them away with a gloved hand. He sat there all day, watching her.
Sail through the wind and rain tonight
You're free to fly tonight
And you can still be free
If time will set you free
And going higher than mountian tops
And go high the wind don't stop
And go high
Free to fly tonight
Free to fly tonight.
He finaly got up and flew again. He wanted to be free for that last time. Free to fly, the way he had always done. Free to cry, the way he had never done. Free to simply live. He would never be able to do it again.
"Vegeta," Kami said quietly. The Namek was not visible, but still most certainly there. Vegeta bowed his head, knowing what he would be told.
"Yes."
"You must go back. It is your turn to be judged."
The illusion of his old life was switched off and he returned to the judging chamber of King Yama, ready to be sent to where he knew he must go.
