Dante's Prayer

By C-Chan

Author's Note: Christy has Duo's son. It wasn't her fault and suddenly Duo becomes hostile to her and their son, Dante. Told from 14 year old Dante's POV. Christy disappeared when he was five because her friends died and Duo had a mistress, Shelby. Most of this will be explained when ~Shy and I get Angels Aren't Always Innocent, Divine Shadow and Would You Miss Me posted.

Character background: Christy is J's oldest daughter, she has a little sister named Amanda (Mandy) and her closest friends are Carla, Brianne and Sarah. Christy ran off when her friends died.

Chapter One

Growing up without a mother would be much easier if my father actually cared for me. My uncle Heero explained to me that I wasn't actually an expected child and it was my mother who always took care of me as a child. The only thing my father holds against me is that if I hadn't been born he might still be with my mother. I seriously doubt that. I get letters from my mom every month. She left because of her friends not Dad. Although Shelby had a lot to do with her skipping out on us.

Uncle Quatre talks to her every week. She never talks to me but I don't really blame her. She still cares enough to send me letters. The only reason my father knows I'm alive is because he is the one the principal calls when I screw up. In the summer I am most definitely forgotten by him. I live with him and my four uncles and my best friend Amaya but my father is the one I want the most. The only one I don't really have.

"Dante?" Amaya giggled as she entered my room. She's ten years old now.

"Hmm?" I smirked at her.

"Hide me!" She gave me an innocent smile and hid under my bed. I remember her mother, Carla. Amaya is just like her. A brat. My mother always talks about Carla in her letters. She was her best friend.

"AMAYA!" a voice called out from the hallway. A few minutes later my uncle Wufei entered my room, "Is she in here?"

"Nope. Why?" I winked at him. He nodded.

"No reason. Are you ready for school tomorrow? Grade 9." Wufei gave me a reminiscent look, "I remember the ninth grade. That was the year before I met your Aunt Sarah." Sarah was Carla's little sister.

"I guess I'm ready. I just hope I don't get Grant this year. That guy is scary." The thing about Amaya is she hates being forgotten.

"Hiya!" she popped out from under my bed causing uncle Wufei to trip over the stuffed animal she put there. Even I couldn't help but laugh.

"DANTE! MAIL'S HERE!" uncle Trowa called from downstairs. I ran down, grabbed my mother's letter and ran back up.

Dante,

How was your summer? Mine was all right. Gavan and I went to California for a couple weeks then we went down to Mexico. The summers on Earth are beautiful. How is your father? And Shelby? I hope they are all right. Has Amaya been behaving herself? I bet she's a lot like Carla. I miss her, Dante, I really do. She was my best friend. Gavan and I were offered teaching jobs up there and we're considering taking them. Meaning I would be able to see you again, Baby. Don't take what your father personally. He does love you. Duo never was one to show his affections in the right ways.

Love, Mom

PS Say hi to everyone for me and tell Quatre I'll phone him later. Give Amaya $10 for her birthday from me.

Gavan was my mom's brother. I ran to my father's room and banged on the door.

"Dad!" I called out.

"What?" he sounded irritated.

"Mom might be coming back!" I said happily.

"Dante, I don't know how stupid you are but you shouldn't believe that bitch." He shouted at me, "Go away."

I walked off, hiding tears. I found Amaya at the bottom of the stairs, "I believe you, Dante." She whispered. I smiled at her before locking myself in my bedroom.
