Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. I never will. Nor do I want
to, because JK Rowling deserves all the credit she can get. I'm not
getting any money off of this either.
That said, onward ho.

She was intoxicating, he decided, as he flew through a gusty breeze to meet her. Attractive, athletic, and affectionate towards her loved ones, she could think of no other he'd rather be with.
And tonight was a special night; tonight they would...He thrilled to the thought. But what if she changed her mind, didn't show? He wasn't sure he could take the disappointment.
But she was dependable and loyal, true to her word-of course she'd show!
He swept his eyes over the landscape and berated himself for his doubt when he spotted her exactly where she'd said she'd be. Careful not drop the gift he'd picked up for her, he dived steeply, soon leveling out into a perfect landing.
She accepted his gift graciously and watched him, amused, as he attempted to set right what had been mussed by the long flight from his home.
After he was his normal neat self again, he took a moment to appreciate the sight before him, and what a sight it was! Always immaculate, she glowed in the moonlight, a pale halo surrounding her, eyes shining and keen and oh so deep....
He had never considered himself good enough for her; he remembered a time when he had tried to drive her away. But she had chosen him. That thought alone was enough to alleviate the feelings of guilt that sometimes arose when she was near, guilt that he had taken her away from someone who deserved her.
The moon had risen; it was time. He awaited her decision, the one that would send him soaring into the heavens or plowing into the earth.
With a come-hither look in his direction, she took off, and he raced after her, heart pounding in anticipation of the night to come...
**Several days later...**
Harry woke slowly on the morning of his birthday. He really didn't want to get up for another day with the Dursleys, but the sunlight streaming through his window would not let him sleep. He groaned.
//C'mon, Harry,// he told himself, //you're a Gryffindor. You've faced dragons, dementors and a basilisk, not to mention the Dark Lord himself. You can certainly deal with Dudley the Amazing Land Whale.//
With that, he pushed himself up and out of bed, yawning hugely. He padded over to say good morning to Hedwig-if the bird was even there, she'd been gone several days-and stopped in mid-stretch as he spotted something in the bottom of Hedwig's cage. Curious, he leaned down to get a closer look.
His mouth dropped open.
"Hedwig? *Eggs?*"
**Elsewhere...**
"Hermes, where have you been? It's not like you to leave like that, and you *knew* I would need you!"
"Who."
"Yeah, that's right. Who were you with, anyway? I hope you weren't hanging around with any *rotten eggs*..."
"Who."
"Ruddy owl, don't know why I bother."
Hermes smirked inwardly.
Who indeed.

I had fun writing this one. I've always liked Hedwig, but she never got the attention she deserved, not in the books, and not in fanfics. This is certainly the only romance I've ever seen involving her.
By the way, I know screech owls and snowy owls usually don't mate, and that owls probably don't have such complex thoughts, but I'm not particularly fond of original characters, even if they are nonhuman, and I think post owls would be smarter than normal owls by default.
