::May it Be (Nai)::

It was wrong, she knew it was. But she had to. She had to see how he was. It wasn't... it wasn't what the others thought it was. They thought she still had that silly crush on him. But.. it wasn't just a crush anymore. She... She loved him. And she knew that he loved another. She had accecpted that. It had taken work. She knew they were too different. She wasn't....wasn't human. Or even something solid. So she had resolved to protect him, be his guardian angel.

That plan had gone down the drain when he left the team. How could she respect his wishes and still be his angel? It tore her apart for a while. Then, she resolved to just GO to Gotham. She didn't have to look for him, or find him. She could just go to Gotham. Maybe she could sense him somehow, 'watch' from a distance. So, here she was, sitting on Gotham's Clock tower. She couldn't 'see' him, but there was so much interference from the city... So much wanton death... that she could hardly 'see' anything. But...She felt better, just being in his city.

So she floated. And as she relaxed, a song formed in her mind, and she let it flow from her lips like a fountain.

Timothy Drake lay sprawled across Oracle's couch. Rolling his eyes upward he looked at Babs when a small alarm began beeping. "What now?" he asked, voicing his exhaustion. Babs looked at a screen for a moment, her face confused. "There's a strange pocket of air on the roof. I wonder what it could be..." She was refining her scans from her sensors when a haunting, beautiful voice drifted into the room from her hidden mic's.

May it be

an evening star shines down upon you

Tim sat up.

May it be

when darkness falls your heart will be true

He knew that ethereal voice.

You walk a lonely road

Oh how far you are from home

She was singing...

Mornië utúlië (Darkness has come)

Believe and you will find your way

Mornië alantië (Quenya: Darkness has fallen)

A promise lives within you now

...About him?

May it be

the shadow's call will fly away

...Or for him?

May it be

you journey on to light the day

It seemed to be giving him strength...

When the night is overcome

You may rise to find the sun

...And he felt his heart rise.

Mornië utúlië (Darkness has come)

Believe and you will find your way

Mornië alantië (Darkness has fallen)

A promise lives within you now

He knew, now. Knew she would support him, protect him in his hours of need. And she would do it without compensation.

A promise lives within you now

He looked over to Babs, as her voice died away, and saw tears shimmering in her eyes. It had touched her too, but not in the way it reached him. "Who was that?" she asked him, wiping away the tears. "An angel... My Angel." he said with a smile.

--

She finished, and it was like coming out of a trance, or waking up. She was aware of herself again, and filled with a strange satisfaction. A single tear fell from her chin, unnoticed.

Rising into the air, she found herself in the midst of a single ray of sunlight piercing the clouds above Gotham. With a small, fanciful smile she gave herself huge, angelic wings, and flew up, into the ray of light, then floating off towards Headquarters.

---NOTE---

I wrote the lyrics down as I listened to the song. So I'm sure there are at least a few discrepiancies with the real lyrics. Oh well.

The song is May It Be, by Enya on the Lord of the Rings : Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack. It's the ending song, they play it during the credits. To be honest, in my mind, Secret sounds like the way Enya sings. Very pretty and ethereal.

Disclaimer: I owneth not Gotham, Tim, Babs, Secret, or the Clock Tower. DC owns them. I owneth not May It Be, Enya and others do. I own this songfic.
