'You hit me'
The words hung over Matt's head. He hadn't meant for it to happen. He had been aiming for Van Dam but at the last minute Rob had ducked and he had hit the person standing right behind Rob, Lita.
He had entered that match to show her how much he loved her and that he wanted her back. You see since Team Extreme broke up everything had gone wrong for Matt. First Jeff had left the federation, he had decided to go back to Cameron and go to the local collage. He and Matt had not spoken in a year.
Lita had started dating Rob Van Dam. To the outside world they seemed to have a perfect relationship. But Matt knew better. Even though he and Lita barley spoke he could sense something was wrong. She had started to act distant to everyone and she barely went out anymore. On the day Matt had finally worked up the nerve to ask her what was wrong he had walked into her dressing room to find Lita on the floor in tears and blood streaming down her face, Rob stood above her yelling obscenities and holding a metal chair. Rob had been so shocked that someone had found out what he was really like that he quickly left muttering something about how that bitch was a cheating ho and not worth it. Matt took Lita into his arms and she had told him that Rob seemed like a gentleman at first but everytime she talked to a male he would get jealous. Soon he had convinced himself that she was cheating on him and would bash her and tell her that if she ever left him he would kill her.
On that day Matt had promised her that nobody would ever hurt her again. He had then gone straight out and arranged are match between him and Rob. If he won Rob would have to stay out of Lita's life forever.
Halfway through the match Rob knocked the referee out, he had then gotten out a steel chair. Lita who had been watching backstage ran out to help Matt. But Matt had managed to get the chair of Rob by himself and he had never seen Lita behind Rob. He hadn't realized she was there until it was too late.
Matt's punch had knocked her to the ground where she landed with a loud thunk.
Matt was quickly by her side.
'Lita I'm so sorry' he told her stroking her hair. 'I'm so sorry'
'You said no one would ever hurt me' she whispered before drifting into unconsciousness
Matt held her with tears streaming down her face. He was so consumed with guilt that he didn't even notice Rob sneaking up behind him with a chair.
As the chair made contact with his head all he was thinking about was Lita and all the pain he had caused her.
His last thought before passing out was 'I never meant to hurt you.'
