Set just after Frodo leaves on his ship to the Grey Havens. Sam's walking home and missing Frodo. Aww . . .

Samwise Gamgee stood on the beach, crying out, "Goodbye, Mr. Frodo! Goodbye!" He watched the ship sail further and further away, until it was out of sight. He wanted to fling himself down upon the sands of the beach and cry. Frodo was gone, his beloved Frodo was gone. Forever, unless one day Sam left the Shire as well to join him. But Sam knew that he couldn't do that. He had Rosie, and little Elanor, back at Bag End. But Frodo had been wrong, in a way. Sam would still be torn in two. Between his master and his wife. He would always be torn in two.

Faintly, at the back of his memory, he recalled vaguely a song Legolas had sung upon entering Lothlorien. One verse in particular rose to the surface of his memory.

Amroth beheld the fading shore

Now low beyond the swell

And cursed the faithless ship that bore

Him far from Nimrodel.

He whispered it quietly to the waves, not hearing the words, but only the sorrow of being parted forever by the sea from whom you love.

And as he stood upon the shore

As sadness claimed his day

Sam cursed the faithless ship that bore

His Frodo far away.

Sam stood on the sand until the sun had fallen low, and reddened. Then at last he turned, tears falling freely down his face, whispered once more the words, "I loved you," to the sea, and left.
