Summary: Just a short little story concerning a lonely explorer.
Spoilers: A Witch's Calling, Hollow Victory
Note: I actually don't really like writing N/Vs but this just kinda came to me. Hope you enjoy it!
Ned Malone sat in his room staring out at the rain streaming down from the canopy above the tree house. He shifted the open journal in his lap and began to gnaw on his pen, lost in thought.
*What should I write?* he pondered. He looked down at what he'd already written.
"Dear Veronica,
We tried to search for you today, but we ran into witches and castles and..."
He didn't know what to say. The infamous journalist was at a loss for words. Ever since Veronica had been swept out of his grasp, her voice, her touch...oh, how he missed her. He wondered if this was how she had felt when he was missing--the pain, the longing, the loneliness-the guilt brought on by words that were never spoken. He kept telling himself that if...no...when she came back, he would reveal his feelings for her. But then he would probably come up with some lame excuse to cover up his emotions. Things always turned out that way.
Ned sighed and slid off of the bed. He slowly made his way up the stairs and peeked out at the second floor of the tree house. Challenger was nowhere to be seen, and Roxton was sauntering over to Marguerite where she was standing under the covered balcony, watching the rain, completely oblivious to the man sneaking up on her. Roxton grabbed her from behind and tickled her, a wide grin on his face. Marguerite laughed and squirmed at his touch, then she turned around and shoved him over backward, but he caught her hand, and they both went down flailing.
Smiling, Ned sadly walked back down to his room. He could still hear his companions' laughter above him. He sighed softly.
*Oh, Veronica. I wish it was you and me up there.*
Suddenly inspired, Ned decided to start over again with his journal, and he scribbled out what he had already written. Then, he began to write, his words flooding the paper.
"Dearest Veronica,
I missed you today..."
And he was so busy concentrating, that he didn't notice a paper heart slide off of his dresser and flutter to the floor.
The End
